Vanilla BG2 bugs?

This is probably just due to my lack of understanding, BUT, the following two things just don't make sense to me.

I can't memorise 'time stop' or 'wail of the banshee' with Aerie or Imoen (lvl 13, lvl 15). The button or 'write magic' just isn't there. Don't think I can memorise lvl 9 spells at all, only tried those two though.

Also, I can't put two proficiency points in dual weild for Jaheira. I can put two in other things, I think, like scimitar, or sword and shield style. I already have 1 point in dual weild and nothing happens when I click to increase it.

Anyone know anything about this? Or should I just stop being old fashioned and get and update? (Could isntall ToB aswell.)

You can't memorise level 9 spells without ToB, or at least i believe it is so.

Just keep on playing, those things don't ruin your game. There are only 7 chapters, so it won't take long to finish it.

Yes. Even if you don't play the ToB campaign it's still worth installing and patching ToB, and the Fixpack/Tweakpack as well. If nothing else it'll fix a few bugs and give you Watcher's Keep - even just clearing out the top floor is worthwhile for the Crimson Dart and Case- and Quiver-of-Plenty.
