Best Backstab Weapon
Best Backstab Weapon
I have a question. What is the best one handed weapon to backstab with? Currently thinking Celestial Fury because Katanas do the most one hand damage but the quietus +4 from item upgrade mod increases backstab modifier by 1. It feels kind of a waste relegating CF to backstab duty when a diff char could probably use it as a main weapon. Are there any other weapons that add 1 to backstab modifier or would be a good backstabbing one hand weapon for other reasons?

The best one handed weapon for backstabbing would have to be one of the +5 weapons, since the higher the bonus, the higher the damage received due to the multiplier. I personally would say that the best one handed weapon for backstabbing would either be Angurvadal +5 or Dagger of the Star +5. But if you're looking for hardcore damage, you want to go with two handed weapons.

I play with no mods. If you want to get technical about it, the best one handed backstab weapon would be the golem arm which (if memory serves) does 4d10 + 10.

Acid/Fire/Ice, etc. doesn't add to backstab damage, does it?
And you don't really need a weapon that has special effects added to it. It helps, but it's really just all out power you need in the backstab. Hindo's Doom is pretty damn good at +5. +4 it's still pretty good.
There could be a weapon better than Celestial Fury for the job...
I might need to look at the most damaging weapons in BG2, (1 handed weapons).

The thing about Angurvadal is that it also gives you a nice strength bonus as well (which increases your damage), not to mention offer protection.
In my opinion Celestial Fury and Hindo's doom are easily outdone by a lot of other weapons.

Oh whoops, +3 and +4 Hindo's Doom.
I don't really think they would become out-done by a lot of other weapons.
The way I kill people:
Hide in Shadows on the Thief, Tank on my "Tank" guy, Backstab with my Thief, Hide, repeat.
And +5 the CF, and it is easily one of the best weapons in the game. Even not +ed, it's still a great weapon, since it has stun.
If you want to get the mod for it, just get Weimer's Item Upgrade mod.
Hindo's Doom increases the attack by a fair bit as well. So, if you have an assassin, you have about 20 attack right there, without the +ed damage. Times that by 7; 140 attack damage right there. Even without the upgrade for the CF, you get about 100 attack.
Spectral Brand +5 is great as well...
When you get to the higher levels, Assassination just absolutely f***s up enemies.
I think +5 CF and +5 Spectral Brand would be good, or CF +5 and Angurvadal +5. If you don't like CF +5 because it's modded, maybe you could go Spectral Brand +5 and Angurvadal +5, other way around or something.
To sum it up, I think that Thieves are just about power. You need defense, but you should just get them from armor.
Angurvadal is actually quite a good weapon...
Not so sure though. It's just all a matter of attack power, like I said.

Depends how you want to set the criteria. To me, the best BS weapon has the absolute highest chance to hit (primary consideration) on that all important swing combined with damage output (secondary).Saros wrote:The best backstab weapon is the Iron Golem fists, followed by the Black Blade of Disaster.
Missing on your BS attempt frankly sucks. So it's gotta be a +5 or +6 weapon IMO.
Not sure what the golem fists or the BBD hit at but I'd be surprised if either is greater than +4.

Guys we all know IG and BB spells do the most damage but they are not weapons so lets try to stop mentioning them.
I think I may have found a winner, haven't tested yet though. It is from upgrade mod so that may upset some of you purists . Upgraded Daystar! 1d8 +4 +8 vs evil. Almost all baddies are evil so if this +8 vs evil is multiplied by backstab then I think this is a winner.
