Help with new error?
Help with new error?
When I get near any NPC I get sent to the inventory and this message shows up:
Script Dialogue CompileAndRun
Syntax Error Line 3.
Could not find variable "State".
Continue running executable?
The when I click yes I get this message immediately afterwards:
==>CompileAndRun problem was found in Voice "Hello"
"This is going to be fun"
Continue running executable?
If I click yes again the whole thing goes away and I can play normally again, until I get anywhere near any NPC, and then it happens again.
Does anyone know how I can fix it? I check on the construction set and couldn't find any errors that stood out, but I've never really checked out the voice section, so I wouldn't really know if I'd missed something.
Any help would be great.

Probably asking the obvious... but do you have your game patched?
Also, which mods are you running, if any?

I reinstalled the game recently and never re-downloaded the patch. Mod-wise I have installed: Better Heads, Better Bodies, Acheron's Camping Gear, BAR Rethan Expansion, Better Books, DH furniture, A couple of weapon and armour fixes (ebony armour, chrysamere etc.), Ravenloft, a couple of armor additions (obsidian, ardeas etc.), Frostmoth Repaired, Arch-Mage's Quarters, and that's about it.

OK, first off, I'd suggest downloading and installing the patch.
I'd also recommend downloading Wrye Mash, which helps you manage mods and maintain a correct load order. It can be a bit complicated and overwhelming to use at first, but you'll thank yourself for learning how.
Another very useful utility is the Morrowind Code Patch. It's invaluable for fixing game bugs Bethsoft never bothered to repair, and it helps to resolve save game corruption.
Note: you will need Python for both Wrye Mash and the Code Patch, there is a link on the Code Patch page I mentioned above.

1.The official patch should be installed first (make sure get the right one)
2. Install Python (if I recall it requires a .NET Framework. Your OS may already have this).
3. Install Wrye Mash
4. Install the Code Patch (I don't think it matters if you install this or Wrye first, but you may as well get the most difficult stuff out of the right off the bat)
I'm not actually seeing anything in the mods you mention that should cause a problem.... but with the ES games anything is possible, so who knows..
In terms of mod load order, there's some debate, but personally I use the basic rule of thumb that overall game altering mods should either be placed near the beginning or end. If you want them to affect your entire game put them at the bottom of your load order, and if you don't, put them at the top.
Also, load order can sometimes resolve conflicts. Wrye Bash should guide you in terms of what should go where by highlighting any problems in various colours. In your Wrye lists, your mods should ideally have nice, healthy green squares beside them, while your save games should ideally be a purplish pink shade. Normally, if you have any red or orange squares you have a significant problem.
To demonstrate what I mean:
DragonWench - Wrye Mod List.JPG
DragonWench - Wrye Save Game List.JPG (you'll see green and blue squares here too. These are fine and if I loaded those saves and re-saved, they'd turn purple/pink like the ones at the top)
All of which is to say that using Morrowind and Oblivion mods turns you into a quasi-techie...

@Ragin Cajun,
If you installed Wrye Mash correctly (it should be in your main Morrowind Directory) you'll see a folder called "Mopy."
In the Mopy folder, you should see an icon called "Wrye Mash for Python 2.5" (or some variation thereof). Double click on it, and if everything is kosher, it ought to open.
@Benk, once you have installed the official patch and Python (both are actually quite easy to install), as stated above, put the Wrye Mash executable in your main MW directory and run it. Then follow the above instructions.
The Codepatch should also be extracted in your MW Main Directory, it looks like a mini Dwemer Coherer. Click on it, the rest is fairly self-explanatory.
Here is a good general guide on mod use:
Starting Out With Mods 1.1
As to Wrye Mash, here are some useful tutorials:

Eh.... and if any of the more techie-minded people here have anything to add, or if I've given wrong advice, please do step in. I've only recently started to get a firm handle on this kind of stuff so I'm still prone to errors

Python doesn't need to be in your MW folder, as far as I know, since it's not specifically for the game.
I'm not sure why you'd be getting a no path error..
Wrye gives you fairly good install instructions, I'd suggest following them to the letter.

I wish things were just really, really simple. I don't have any sort of executable file with the wyre mash stuff. I have "wyre mash for python 2.4/2.5" files but they can't run without a pythonw.exe executable, which wasn't part of the download.
Honestly, have I missed something really stupid or has something gone wrong?
The patch and the Morrowind code patch work fine however, and I'm not having any problems with either.
I'm sorry to be such a bother, thank you for helping so far.

If you've downloaded the latest version, then there should be a Python25 folder in the root of the C: Drive, (path C:\Python25) which should have pythonw.exe in it. If not try installing Python again, if necessary download it from here

I need to go deal with some RL stuff, but here's a page that might help.
If not, hopefully somebody like Galraen or Magelord will stop by, they are both far better at this sort of thing than I am. I'll check back later and see how you are doing. That page I mentioned did help me when I was extremely new to Wrye, hopefully it will be of use to you as well.
EDIT

OK, just to make this easier I went and downloaded the most recent version of Wrye Mash.Benk wrote:Ok, I now have the whole python aspect of it, but still nothing doin' with the wrye mash stuff. Is there supposed to be an executable with the wrye mash files? The only executable that came with it is just a 7-zip console thing.
1. Unzip the archive you just downloaded. I always initially put things like this into a temporary folder on my desktop.
In case you don't have an unzipping tool, I suggest Zip Genius. It's totally free, contains no spyware, and supports most formats. If you use lots of mods, this little toy will become invaluable to you.
2. OK, now that you've unzipped the contents of your archive you will see two folders, one is called "Mopy" and the other is called "Data Files."
3. Go to your main Morrowind Directory. Copy the two aforementioned folders and paste them into the Morrowind Directory. When it asks if you want to overwrite hit "Yes to All."
4. You will note after this that the "Mopy" folder is in your MW directory. Open it and double click on "Wrye Mash for Python 2.5"
If you have installed Python correctly, and you have done the above without a hitch, it should open....

If you read Dragon Wench's earlier post you'll see that there should be a folder in the Morrowind folder called mopy; by default that would be:
C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Mopy
Within the Mopy folder should be a file called

Ok, all of this still didn't fix any problems, so I went through every mod I have and checked every voice dialogue. I ended up finding one erroneous entry, in a really old mod that I never use any more. I still have no idea how it popped up, but its all sorted now anyway.
Thank you for all of your help. The mods you have recommended will certainly be of use.
P.S. The mod that was broken was "Morrowind Inhabitants" for future reference, if anyone was considering downloading it.
