Curve Ball

Post by Ragin Cajun »

wow, got hit with a curveball today.

Go to sleep in Balmora. I've done one quest for the thieves guild and joined the mages guild for access..no quests. Went to sleep in the house in Balmora (mod) to go from level 1 to level 2 and am awakened by a dark brotherhood attack. The journal tells me to notify the guard, he tells me to look a guy up in Ebonheart and after finally walking there, he tells me to visit a mage to see about getting into Mournhold (I think that's what it was)... just seems a bit to fast and furious moving you along.

That's normal if you have Tribunal installed.
There is actually a mod that delays the DB attacks until you are at least level 6;
apart from the fast and furious sense it creates, getting that armour at a low level is pretty unbalancing. In terms of light armour, only glass is better.

Be aware, though, you don't *need* to follow up by going to Mournhold (unless you want to see it for a change of scene), you can procrastinate until you want to deal with the Tribunal quest lines. Actually.... if you are low level, you'll probably find Tribunal rather challenging . :D

ah, ok. I knew I had been to level 2 already on the vanilla MW. But I did buy the expansions and reinstalled yesterday.

Just curious, is MW like Oblivion where the mobs and dungeons level up with you or are they preset?

Now you know why I said in the other thread make sure you have a Frostbite spell ready when you go to sleep! :D

Levelling doesn't happen anything like the way it does in Oblivion. Some monsters both indoors and out, level with you, but the majority do not, items certainly don't.

This means you can, if you're lucky or know where to look find high level gear right at the start. It also means you can run into high level 'monsters' right from the start too. What monster levelling there is, is confined to monsters; NPC's are not levelled at all.

I have a mod installed which delays the Dark Brotherhood attacks until you reach a certain level of prestige and fame, to the point where the royal family will take notice of you, as you start to make a name for yourself. It means that you can go about and do loads of quests without meeting them, until you get so good that you are a threat, and then assassins are sent to take care of you. I like it so far, and thought you might be interested.

I seem to remember that Dark Brotherhood weapons level with you. After the first fights, I got an Imperial Short Sword, but by lvl 20-25 (Can't recall anymore.) I got Daedric Wakizashis.
