problem with Fallout Trilogy

Post by zemstvos »

I stumbled on a Fallout collection the other day. It says White Label and GSP on the box and contains Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics on a DVD. Is this the one that started the whole Interplay vs Bethesda thing on who call publish Fallout games?
Anyway I figured that since it's a re-release they would have made the games compatible with Windows XP so I bought it. I was only partly right. I'm pretty sure they have made a new installer for Fallout and it works perfectly, unlike my CD version that just gets stuck every time I click the install button. Tactics also works just fine. But Fallout 2... Ugh. They definitely didn't make a new installer for this one, they just crammed it in the disk. Just like the CD version it acts like it has been properly installed but when I try to run the game it says it can't load some fonts or whatever and the game shortcut in Program Files (vault boy icon) get replaces by some the face of some bearded guy.
I guess there's no other way but to use Killap's restoration project? Unfortunatelly I can't use Good Old Games.

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode? I'm even running it on Vista 64 without compatibility mode.
BTW, why can't you use GoG?

The only problems I've encounter with Fallout 1 and 2 were distorted graphics. The icon is an easter, egg, though I can't figure out how to replace it to that of the PipBoy.

Both games have fixes for those issues if you look around. Unfortunately I can't comment on the restoration project since I'm not familiar with it.

I can't seem to make it work with the compatibility mode either. Do I need to mess with the display settings? I only became aware of No Mutants Allowed when I read the news about the restoration project and I have yet to get a proper deep look at the site. I mainly looked through the downloads and got horribly lost :o . I'll try to poke around some more today.

They have a lot of technical know-how about the game.
Which OS are you using?

Try downloading "sfall" and put it in your Fallout 2 directory and see if it works. That's what removed my problems.
