"Aaah the medalions!", The doctor says, "Well, well looks like you got almost all of them. If you did in theory get all of them you could enter the shrine... but you'd never decrypt the passage, it goes beyond the minds of a mere outsider!" The doctor says with a smirk.
"The whole town is going to the ceremony, sure attendance will be down due to the recent shuffle... but the dead will be there in spirit... perhaps more." The doctor says with a smile.
The doctor is telling the truth or at least he believes it to be the truth. You can tell he'll talk more than anyone else since he appears to be more restrained in his fanaticism, but you can tell from his eyes that he's just as insane as the halfling back in the inn.

You go over to the orc and see that he seems to be pulling out some pieces that look like gears and metal plating. You can make out that the the two of them seem to building a construct of sorts.
"We're just building some self-defence...", comes a voice from behind, you turn around and see Quarion, "After out encounter with the crab we figured if all our best fighters are going off and into the woods we might as well build someone to guard the ship."
"The Juggernaught IV, leading technology of the red whips themselves. This bad boy isn't even on the market yet, it's kind of like a test run.", Quarion says proudly, "Just, uh, don't let Cid know that it isn't guild made. Because to be honest our Doom Guards are far too outdated.", he pronounces flamboyantly.
Quarion see Rilo-kar working on some of the gears trying to bash them together, whenever they clearly don't fit. "Haha, let me handle that." Quarion says going to work on it, "Do you mind getting the armored core?" he says looking back at the half-orc who nods and goes back down into the holding bay.
"Still hard to believe that he once made a 'wand golem', a construct made entirely from wands, the stupid thing kept firing magic missiles and every other sort of projectile just walking around.", He pulls his head out of the doom guard's empty breast plate, "Remember the fire in the workshop 2 years ago?"
You nod. "Yeah... that was him...", I think you're the first person I let know about that, "Cid probably still thinks it was just a miscast... Prefer if it stayed that way. He doesn't need to know that it was actually animated artillery shooting fireworks everywhere."
At this point Cid pops up, and takes you off to the side. "By the way, I should let you know something... Have you ever been told why they call the artifact shrines, 'vaults'?"
You're surprised to admit, no you hadn't.
"Well these 'vaults' are actually like very large elaborate treasure chests. Each one that's been recorded, has a sort of theme or puzzle to them. This is like the lock to the chest. Most of these puzzles have a time limit along with all the monsters and the like, this is like the trap that springs whenever you fiddle with the lock. What we want is the treasure, in this case the artifact.", Cid explains, "I don't know if it's useful, but just remember that when you're traveling about in there..."

You strike the wand against the rock and suddenly the end blasts out into a magificent, yet blinding light. Your helmet helps shield the blinding rays from the wands initial blast, but you still have to squint to avoid being hurt by the blazing rays.
From what you can tell this wand doesn't actually perform any sort of magic aside from acting as a light source. However, it seems like the light has also been bad for the gibberlings as they have halted their reckless charge towards you and now slowly stumble their way near you.
You figure you should use this tool before it gives up.
Belfore
Your mace hits the tree and smashes into it's base splintering a large portion of it as well as setting it aflame...
Roll for damage and roll and an additional d4 for added fire damage.

I cut his throat off and look around his lab (I also kill the hand thing) I take any medallion I see and search around the house (avoiding the parts closest to the door with the guards) then I search the second floor and signal Cernd ar to help me go back (I throw him the rope and then climb back)
I tell Cernd ar everything I learned and try to formulate a plan with him of how to disturb the ceremony.
Brauer.
''how did you get your hands on that golem if its not in the market'' I ask the elf I also ask for the specifics (strenghts and weakneses of the golem) then I wait for Brim to come back and report.

While she is busy gloating you take this time to attempt the disarm maneuver once more. Buying her enough time to dodge and attempt a speed counter attack.
1+5 = 6 Fumble!
Normally you’d still attempt for the disarm and such but because of the fumble you won’t even need to bother.
Her lack of awareness makes disarming her easy as the blade flings aimless out of her hand in her hasteful counter. The fencing foil flys across the room and clatters behind you.
“My oh my, perhaps I did underestimate you…”, She says vehemently, “I’ll have to make sure not to make that mistake twice.” She says turning around and grabbing another fencing sword from the rack before assuming the postion.

You quickly get into position as Azhag and Rhag’nuul ready the rope… The stuttering mechanism stares you down and begins scratching it’s worn iron hoof against the stone ground. It lurches forward gears and innards creeking…
Then the storming monstrosity comes charging in head first towards you. You jump out of the way last minute as Azhag and Rhag’nuul bring the rope up and tug with all their might…
14-1=13
14+1=15 Heh, two 14’s in a row…

And
Reflex dodge 20 vs 20!
The plan works! You roll to safety just in the very nick of time to avoid being gored to death and the rope manages to not snap at the sheer force of the minotaur’s charge. The minotaur is not as fortunate as it trips and smashes through the southern wall. It crashes through a solid 10 feet of stonework before breaking apart and smashing into a non-functioning mass of rusted iron plating and cogs on the other side.
The strange thing though is amongst the expected sounds of shattered limestone and scraping metal you heard a high pitched squeek. Taking a look at the newly formed hole in the wall you see that the iron goliath fell atop a good portion of the rat swarms from the other room… But the few remaining rats crawling from beneath the wreckage of the beast are too frightened to pose any threat as they scurry off into separate corners of the other room…
“I guess you can say we took out two monsters with one rope.”, comments Azhag.

You bolt towards the base of the tree and smash your mace into the tree shattering a good portion of it and setting it ablaze. The tree creaks and almost falls over on the side you hit it on before using one of its ‘arms’ to hold itself steady.
Meanwhile Waltur begins to bleed out along the side of the tree…

The lizarman in it’s overpowered rage rends the tree limb by limb tossing the branches and hunks of bark into the very quicksand it created in some sort of unintentional poetic justice. Then the lizardman hoists the chest onto his one shoulder and pulls out the drool covered wand out of his mouth in the other hand and tosses it back to Soloman who looks at it and then tosses it into the quicksand with a shrug.
Meanwhile the Lizard goes over to the body of the passed out Captian and flings him over his other shoulder and barks, “WE GOT WHAT WE CAME FOR, LET’S RETURN BACK TO THE SHIP.”
Eager to leave the jungle for the moment they begin to leave. Realizing that there ship is the only means of escape, you eventually decide to follow them, carrying the body of the dead student with you.
On the trip back, Soloman swoops in near you. “Listen, Belfore, right? See we’d love to probably set off ship and go back to Morderhiem and leave this place behind us taking you with us… but we have a bit of a problem see…”, Soloman explains, “We came to the island looking for a powerful magic item called ‘an artifact’, and we came all the way here just to recover it, so my colleages and I aren’t going to be setting sail unless we have the artifact in possession. Not only that, but supplies are slim on a boat and some of the crew members may not be charitable enough to just give you a free ride.”
“But… if you could perhaps help us find and retrieve the artifact then I’m almost certain they will be more than happy to accommodate you for the trip back. Sound good?”
As a bit of exposition for the past several months you’ve been living on the island you’ve noticed only a few things that may or may not have something to do with the location of this “Artifact”.
You know that there is a bizarre ruin located in the eastern swamp which rises above the surface during the night and then sinks down to the bottom of the swamp by day. Admittedly you had been interested in visiting this area before, if not to avoid the dangers of the forest to at least sate your curiosity. But the local tribe of Bullywigs had set up camp around the swamp for awhile and you never bothered to go back even after the Bullywigs left.
If the artifact wasn’t there then it’d possibly be back at the Bullywigs’ village, having possibly retrieved it themselves from the ancient ruin.

Using this weakness to your advantage you make your way to the edge of the forest and escape once you are several feet from the edge of the forest you re-converge with Lao-Ming and look back to see the horde of fiends are at the edge of the forest but none of them dare step outside of it. Instead the stare at you with their blood shot eyes glowing in the moonlight, filled with hatred and malice.
The wand continues to glow brightly and you have no idea how to turn it off. Meanwhile Mao-Ling has set up a crude firepit just outside of the forest and decides to make a more permanent light source to keep the beasts at bay until sunrise. He then begins taking off his wooden armor and placing it off to the side and far away from the blazing fire, bastard sword wedged into the ground beside it. It is at this time you notice that his left had which he never uses is perfectly fine. Instead the hand is just kept in a hoop of his regal clothing and hangs limply with a ring on his ‘ring finger’. The ring looks of a high quality make despite being made of some strange black metal you’ve never seen and with that and his fine clothing you wonder if he might actually be some sort of royalty back in his homeworld.
Also from your very limited knowledge of history and geography, (unless you choose to roll), you wonder how it is even possible for someone like him to even be in Albion considering the continent of Xing blocked itself off from the rest of the world. You have a mountain of questions you’d like to ask, but you realize the futility in the matter considering you can’t even communicate with him properly.
You hadn’t realized it… but you’ve begun to grow tired and weary… must have been an effect of teleporting halfway across the continent that has thrown your perception of time out the window… You think back…
Just this morning you had been let free of your tutolage… killed an ogre… had your best friend die… met a wizard… been paired up with a man from a different continent… agreed to put an end to some goblin brigands and then chased by a hoard of Gibberlings…
And with that you pass out, armor and all by the side of the campfire.

[I/] After killing the doctor you proceed to kill the bizarre animated hand. You then begin searching around quickly to see if you find anything. You find a key on the doctor and find that it opens the other door in the basement.
Inside this room you find is small and cramped… The walls all along the right and the far end are filled with shelving units and lining all of the shelving units are rows upon rows of glass jars filled with what smells like pickling vinegar and rotting flesh. Inside the jars themselves are lifeless limbs and eyeballs suspended in green liquid. Upon closer inspection you notice that many of the limbs and such have weird mutations in them such as boils or rotting, while other ones have hands with several extra digits or an eyeball with two separate pupils.
There is a small desk crammed against the western wall, on the desk there appears to be 2 books, a medallion, another key and a cultist robe.
Examining the books you find that one of them looks like the one you retrieved previously from the other cultist that Cernd-ar is hopefully going to find a way to crack. The other tome, looks to be a journal belonging to a sort of noble family, this book is freely unlocked but upon opening it you find that the book is written in what looks like undercommon, but slightly different. It seems mildly magical in manner, you can’t makes head or tails of it, but it’s a hunch.
You grab the pendant and find the sixth, and presumably final medallion! On it there is a symbol of a crescent moon overlapping a full moon.
You then search the rest of the house but find it only to have regular living supplies outside of the 36 gp and 13 sp you find in one of the house’s many drawers.
You return back to Cernd-ar and you find that it’s getting late now, it’ll be night soon and the ceremony is at midnight. You explain the situation and Cernd-ar says he might be able to find some old weapons of the faith back at the old church, assuming it still stands, that could be used to hopefully level the playing field when it’s two vs. the entire village.
You ask how Quarion could get access to such a golem.
“Well not to get into all the specifics because then someone might have to kill me but… let’s say I got it from a friend who got it from a beholder who stole it from an illithid.” Quarion says with a wink, “As for the weaknesses… hmmm. None really, haha okay maybe that’s a lie. But let’s see this bad boy, unlike most Doom guard doesn’t have a ‘neck’ as per usual with most of the juggernaut series. The eyes are right on the chest. Also, this behemoth has the best armor of the series and unlike most big objects this sucker can really book-it when it needs to.”
“If you’re unaware with the series, Juggernauts basically are giant moving walls that pick up momentum and then smash through everything in their path once they hit terminal velocity… terminal for the enemy.”
Quarion bumps his head and cusses… “The only damn weak spot is the ‘some assembly required’ tag.”
Eventually Brim returns, according to him Byggvir is probably not on the ship, and by choice since his back pack and basic living supplies are gone.
After thanking him for the update, you see Raz carrying the passed out captain and a treasure chest over his shoulders, as the remaining student body returns.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
Hey guys, I really hate to do this, but I'm going to have to start updating a little less frequently for awhile, like maybe only every second day. It's not because of the two characters or any of that jazz.
I've been informed that my workplace is going to have to let me go at the end of this month, so that gives me only a few weeks to find a new job. So until I can secure myself employment for the future, updates will be coming in at a lower frequency.

Slyphie's attack

Slyphie's blade is a lot quicker this time and you feel a jab in your gut, you stumble back to see that the blade is not a foil but an actual rapier.
"Well, well... this was quiet the accident." Slyphie says looking at the bloodied blade, no remorse in her voice.
"I guess we'll call it a day for now.", she says still examining the blade.

You and the party take a few minutes to rest, but considering the nature of the vault and the fact that a tribe of Gnolls could barge in with you at any time makes the rest unease.
During this time your companions take some time to recuperate to a degree...
regain hp equal to your constitution modifier x2, (minimum of 1, negative recover can't occur.)
Azhag regains 1 hp.
Rhag'nuul regains 2 hp.
During this time the bites on Azhag's body seems to have gotten infected and swollen. This makes the goblin even pusier than some of the most disgusting orcs.
Azhag loses -3 Dex & Con.
During this time Rhag'nuul and Azhag try to make themselves useful by discussing the workings of the vault and trying to figure out where the possible hidden staircase could be...
Azhag
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 14 +3= 17
Rhag'nuul
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 8 + 5 =13
Neither of them can figure out where the secret entrance to the 2nd floor may be, but Azhag does consider something...
"Hey Khannon", he calls, grabbing you attention. You look at the goblin and try to focus on what he's going to tell you rather than the fact that he looks like a troll's armpit.
"There are multiple stairs going down to this floor from the 'main lobby'. It seems that all the stairs we've seen going up go to this room but only when it's aligned at the proper time. We may not know when that is, but what we do know is where there top set of the "Vanishing staircase" is located in relation to this floor.
It's located in the ceiling of the room we enter every time we come down here."
You cock your eyebrow at the goblin. He continues, "That being said, that means if the gnolls do in fact get into the vault and find the secret entrance we'll know exactly they'll arrive from. We won't be able to figure out what the layout of the room will be, but we'll know the location. On top of that, that means we know where to go if we ever need to make an emergency escape!
Map updated to show new surroundings and possible entry point for gnolls/definite escape area (provided you have the stairs lined up or access to the ceiling via ladder).
Possible dungeon layout according to Azhag with memory of Randall's notes.

Brauer & Belfore
"Great! Perfect! We'll just get back to the ship for a second and come up with a strategy.", Soloman says to Belfore patting him on the back.
Belfore, Soloman, Raz, Waltur and the students arrive from out of the forest to the beach.
Brauer then goes to Ariel and discusses whether she can heal Waltur. She says she could had she planned for it, but she hadn't planned on using any of her magic what so ever.
As the group arrives Brauer notices that they have a tortle, humanoid turtle, with them and over his shoulder he has what looks like a dead student, he is busy talking to Soloman. The 4 remaining students have brought with them the remains of two bizarre birdmen.
The crew arrives from the ship and the go to see how Waltur is doing Raz says that he needs immediate medical attention. Rilo-Kar arrives with a brown jar and tells Raz to lay the captain down on a matt he set up on the shore line. The lizardman does so and the half-orc examines the body and begins placing leeches on the wounds. When the sailors begin to protest Cid walks in.
"The art of Leechcraft is an ancient medical practice that was invented by the orcish tribes of the central plains. Despite it's crude nature it is still an effective way to rid the body of poisons, re-attach severed limbs or in this case to stop bleeding. Leeches rarely kill their prey, the bad rap they earn is generally from those of the magical variety. The leeches will detach themselves once the wound has sealed up and at that time regular recovery can begin from there."
Cid then looks at the dead student over the Tortle's shoulder, "Oh my, this is most unfortunate..."
"We should perform a proper burial", says one of the students.
"Yes, perhaps we should.", Cid says nodding, "But who should do the ceremony?"
"I could do it.", Ariel says, then she looks as if she regretted saying that, "I realize I may not be of the same faith as the student, but my people believe in a link between life and death, and I have been taught how to do a small service."
You are both surprised by the lack of fuss or resistance people put up as they allow the drow to bury the body of the dead student underneath a tree. Before filling in the hole Soloman places two silver coins over the eyes 'to pay the ferry man'.
After this Raz takes the treasure chest and puts it aboard the ship before going back down to watch over Waltur.
In this time Brauer asks Cid when the last time he spoke to Byggvir was. "Hmm, I never thought of that, he was asleep when I got up and then when I returned to my room from the Crab attack he was gone. So was the wand... I know I taught him how to use magic devices... you wouldn't suppose... No, I think I would have noticed...", Then Cid is simply lost in thought.
That's when Soloman calls you over. He has a small table set up and has a large piece of paper sprawled out. It's the map from before. "Brauer, Belfore, Belfore, Brauer", Soloman says giving quick introductions to the two of you.
"Our friend Belfore has just agreed to help us out on our quest to retrieve the artifact. We're just discussing now what is the best way to go about it..."
Belfore looks at the map and see three options which he discusses:
Route A) Direct path, You can't get lost and it takes the least time, this will take you straight to the marshes where the vault is generally located. Problem is, along the path you'll be going straight through the Bullywig's central village, resistance will be fierce and you are guaranteed to fight some of their champions and shamans. You'll also be fighting on their terms.
Route B) Lakeshore pass, this path may get you mildly lost and it is a bit out of the way. You may encounter a bullywig scouting tribe or two, but nothing as fierce as at the camp. You may encounter another one of the forest's inhabitants but not very likely. Only problem is, if you wish to make good time you'll need to be willing to travel through some challenging terrain.
Route C) Forest path, this path will take the longest and it's the most likely to get you lost. The forest is home to some of Lustria's more exotic bestiary, but Bullywigs almost never adventure out this far. There's also rumours of a cursed temple hidden in the forest according to Soloman, but as far as you know that's not true.
As you discuss your options Raz arrives, "WALTUR IS FINE, NEEDS REST", Croaks the Furyian. "Raz, Belfore, Belfore , Raz" Soloman introduces again.
"YOU LOOK LIKE YOU MIGHT NEED SOME MUSCLE, 30% OF THE GOLD AND I'M IN. DEAL?"

"That's alright, the church is right beside the cemetery.", Cernd-ar replies. The two of you sneak your way through the city and towards the cemetery.
As you get close to the cemetery you see that night is beginning to fall and groups of villagers are wearing similar outfits to those of the cultists making them harder to in distinguish from the actual cultists. You see that the cemetery gate is open and beyond the spiked iron gates there is a hill to the east-side of the cemetery where the church rests, and a path going through the field of tombstones on the west. Their is a small group of 6 people in robes heading towards the mausoleum, one of them is carrying a torch, but that's all you can make out. The two of you walk into the cemetary and hide behind one of the larger statues, you backs to the gate entrance and looking ahead a the masoleum which is about a 20 yards away. The Church is about 30 years away.
"So", Cernd-ar whispers, "Any last minute changes to the game plan before I run off?"

You awake to find yourself lying back in Ariel's bed, you have bandages wrapped around your chest from where you were stabbed although it seems to have healed up considerably well only leaving a small scar. Hopefully that doesn't stick to your true form.
You look around the room and find a small clay vase with some dainty purple flowers on the night table beside your resting place along with a small plate of fruit.
You recall how you got here and swear that you’ll kill that princess off before your time is done in the castle.
You also recall that you have to meet up with Steeltooth today for your first assignment…
You also recall that you haven’t explored a large part of the castle still, levels 3 and above and the dungeon area. There was also the ‘restricted library’ area as well as the sealed off room you discovered the entry way to via the now sealed window area.
Getting yourself ready you also recall the various written articles in the room you have yet to look over such as the crimson letters, the ebony scroll, the damaged journal and then there’s the bronze key you had discovered…
Concentration check if you need a hint to remember where Steeltooth said to meet up.

Cernd-ar Leads you up to the abandoned church it looks like the building is exceptionally worn, the roof has long since collapsed and much of the interior looks like it was razed. Cernd-ar makes his way towards the back of the building to a door that is pretty much fallen off it’s hinges. He touches the door and it falls over. Inside the room there is simple a wall with an etching of the fist of Hextor crushing two arrows.
“Followers of Hextor must always be ready to make war against his many enemies.”, Cernd-ar says raising his mace on high, “Hextor provides his warriors with the tools the need as long as they bring the –SPIRIT!”
And with that he brings his mace against the thin wall which shatters easily. This reveals an armory on the other side of the room, the weapons look unused and high quality if a bit old.
In the armory there are two equally amazing discoveries!
First there is a suit of full plate armor, emblazoned with red trimwork and fanged skulls but otherwise practical. The manaquin it’s placed on has 6 arms although the breastplate is hinged open to make way for the extra 4 limbs. Each hand of the clay mannequin holds a weapon, the weapons are battleaxe, sai, longsword, flail, scimitar & heavy mace.
But more amazing than this, if that’s even possible, is there that stashed away in the other side of the room there is a small ballista with two wheels in the front with a massive bolt strapped to the front. The bolt itself looks like it’s wood is old and withered and the metal is rusted and dull. But the sheer size and power of the launching machine could more than make up for it.
Surely with this you may change the tide of battle!
Cernd-ar looks at you with a grin. “If we take this, we can easily take out the guardians that the cult are so confident of!”
Brauer & Belfore
Belfore knows some basics of the Bullywig, but to recall any advanced knowledge of the Bullywigs he must make a Knowledge (Nature), as for other general wildlife both Brauer and Belfore should make ANOTHER separate Knowledge (Nature) rolls to recall any sort of creatures.
Soloman will also make a Knowledge check to figure out what sort of creatures should be here.
In addition, the students back on the ship are going to dissect the “harpy” creatures to see if they can analyze it’s weaknesses and whether or not this type of creature should be a common threat or a rarity. However it’ll take them a day to figure this out.
Brauer asks about the size and specifics of the expedition.
Soloman looks at Brauer, “The group will consist of you, me and Belfore-“, “And Me!” Ariel says making her way over. He comes over with her umbrella and while her clothes do not look battle ready they look slightly more rugged and able to traverse the forest than in her dress.
“I am just as capable as anyone else here… I’m not too sure what you’re up to but I know that I can help.”, She says with determination.
“I’ll join in, but my offer stays at 30% of treasure”, Says the mighty Furyian.
“Well what do you two think? Should we take either of them?”, Soloman asks, “On top of that we need to have this expedition done in 10 days, or else we’ll need to cancel the expedition we have limited supplies and the captain will most likely want to leave before then.”
“The next question is, do we want to rest here while it’s still safe, or do we want to press onward immediately that way we don’t become pressed for time later.”

Arvall
Cernd-ar Leads you up to the abandoned church it looks like the building is exceptionally worn, the roof has long since collapsed and much of the interior looks like it was razed. Cernd-ar makes his way towards the back of the building to a door that is pretty much fallen off it’s hinges. He touches the door and it falls over. You pet the tiger and the tiger doesn’t seem to mind, or at least it doesn’t gnaw your arm off. Mao-ling puts on his armor once more and the part is ready. You look around and find that today’s weather features a haze which hovers slightly over the grass like a transparent carpet. You motion to the forest and Mao-ling nods.
You head towards the forest and it seems like today is foggy, while it’s only a mild mist in the valley, it seems to have thickened up in the forest. The tiger follows behind you and Mao-Ling and seems to have taken a liking to him, or was his pet from before.
You and Moa-Ling head towards back into the forest and find yourselves back at the stone circle at the opening.
Spot (Jarrackt):1-1-2=-2
Spot (Mao-Ling):19+0-2=17
You wander about in the opening and Mao-Ling, motions you over, he shows you one the ground that there is 3 small pools of blood with bits of black fur around the area, but there is no gibberling bodies.
After that, Mao-Ling points at the stones and draws a diagram of sorts in the mud. Also you have no idea where the goblin’s hideout is or how to find out.
You may use choose an appropriate skill (s) to try and either understand what Mao-ling is trying to say or find the goblin hideout.

Nature checks:d20=3 2nd roll=9
"The more that can help the faster we can get the task done. I'm ready when everyone else is."
Jarrackt:
I shall try to understand what hes saying with Gather info and decipher script.
Gather info d20=17+3 Cha= 20
Decipher script d20=9+1 INT=10
out of game: I wanted to make sure if he name is Lao-Ming or Mao-Ling. just
got a little confused on that.
