Who Loves Orange So~da?! (Spam on topic)

Post by Siberys »

Kel loves orange So~da!

Anyone remember the good old days (and yes I realize I'm saying that despite being only 21) when even the kiddy stuff on some of the channels was actually genuinely good?

Rocko's modern life, Ren and Stimpy, Keenan and Kel, All That, Are you Afraid of the Dark? Even some of the made for TV movies like Goodburger, that was awesome! Decent comedy for adults while still being kid friendly.

Now we have a string of talentless actors in third rate animations and live shows all from Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network basically destroying everything that was ever good about television for kids (IMO).

And then about six years ago, a ray of hope shot through. A movie director I hadn't heard of, who's made all sorts of kid and adult friendly cartoons with simplistic plots but extremely well written characters and events.

Hayao Miyazaki. Even when they were dubbed into English by Studio Ghibli, it was still fairly good, especially Princess Mononoke for getting Billy Bob Throrton.

Then I see this, a music video for Ponyo, Miyazaki's final masterpiece-

It's cute, it's sweet and innocent, and it's still quite enjoyable even for me. But then, along comes the Kanye West of nations, America with this little nugget of soul crushing stupidity that made me die a little inside from the first few seconds alone-

Rocko's Modern Life was probably my favorite show when I was younger.
And Ponyo was a pretty good movie. I didn't like it as much as I liked Spirited Away, though. Probably one of my all-time favorite movies right there.

Love old Nickelodeon shows. Rocko's Modern life and few other shows (Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers) are actually now on Netflix instant streaming, which is pretty awesome. I've been re-watching a lot of them with my gf who never had cable when she was a kid.

Does anyone remember watching this old French cartoon about this little mule called Cadichon? I remember talking about episodes with kids at the school playground. How.. little has changed. :/

The Mysterious Cities of Gold!

Thank you, Ode, for reminding me about that wonderful show! I've never seen much of it, since access to tv was quite restricted when I was a kid, but that's not a problem these days.

Wow... I'm off to stroll down the memory lane :)
