When the past - part one
When the past - part one
(Indion, Y996, December 26 - noon)
After a couple minutes wait outside the barracks you are all called inn by your first names, as a group, a young guardsman leads you in to the office of the Sheriff.
The office is a plain room, the masonry walls dominated by a holy symbol to St. Cuthbert, in the center back of the room a desk and a chair is placed, with one sheet of paper and two letters placed on it. Looking at you from the chair, as if he is slightly displeased, is a tall man looking as though he is lacking of sleep. He wears a full plate and has a greatsword placed within arms reach.
"You are the ones looking for work on a cargo mission" he states to all of you looking at the hobgoblin with a distrustful stare for a moment "if not, feel free to leave. Now, as you might know, this will be a land based caravan set together of three wagons of cargo and one containing other things.
The Caravan leaves tomorrow at sunrise, and you will be leaving for Mainport, which means, with the snow it will take you about two weeks to arrive, then you get one day to rest and the caravan goes back up.
Do note though, this cargo is not to suffer any impact or rapid movements, it is very frail and dangerous cargo, and if it arrives broken there is no pay.
As for payment, when you arrive Mainport, half of your pay will be given to you, the other half you will receive when the caravan is back in Indion"
He rises and looks at you again, Handing a letter to the aasimar "you will be the leader of this group, this letter is for your eyes only, this second letter" he says as he hands him another one "Is to be delivered to the man coming to pick up the cargo in Mainport, do not read it, and this sheet." he shows it to all of you, it seems like a confirmation of the order including a mark after a signet ring "Is an exact replica of what he will show to you before you hand it over, do not give the cargo to someone without that sheet of paper." He gives this too to the aasimar and takes a step back.
"Questions?"

A smile barely touches the sheriffs face "He wishes for you to be there one hour before departure*. And be sure to bring your winter clothes"
(*due to the sun being up late in winter that means 9)
(EDIT, forgot to mention, to speak to a man using only his title implies you are over him in rank, if you on the other hand use sir (title) or say sir (name) you imply him being over you, I'll assume your character chose sir sheriff instead, as one can get a small fine for not using correct terms.)

Once more Kuu'Shar felt like he was unwanted when the governor gave him a hard look, and felt as if those words of leaving were meant straight at him.
Kuu'shar raised his hand ''One question my lord. Are we to expect trouble from bandits?"

A nod is sent in the direction of Kuu'shar, but the sheriff looks at Gabriel when he answers in-depth "you should expect anything: bandits, evasive goblinoids, winter-beasts and even people who might know what they are doing. You will yourselves be responsible for bodies and their gear by the way."
(by the way, I assume you meant sheriff, as the governor is someone else)

"Bored now, meet you by the gates....
Bye Bye," I say in a singsongy voice, flying outside hovering around 15 or 20 feet in the air practicing my pipework. I slowly drift towards the entrance to the city where the cargo mission will start.

The sheriff mumbles something under his breath (Gabriel hears him stating "frightfully rude missy*"), and nods, "You might just as well be on you way and prepare, I'm sure some of the inns will take you in" he states, again seeming to remind Kuu'shar that he does not belong.
The air is thick with snowflakes torn around by the coastal wind outside. Despite the weather the street are bustling, mainly with people moving cargo from one place to another, but also merchants. Every now and then, Eimia hover past a guard, who looks up at her with a hand on the hilt of his sword, before dismissing caution as she passes. (do note that you have one day before the departure)
(*missy is the term for a female under oneself in the system, anyone owning land can say this about someone not owning land, and it is completely acceptable although condescending. On a second note, a commander can use missy about those he commands without regard to property)

''Understood sir'' I lightly bow before heading out side, I walk past the guardsand wait outside, checking my gear once more. And think were I should spend the night, seeing that I've already sold the house my father used to live in.
''I guess I'll look for a Inn'' I spend the rest of the day looking for a place to rest in.

I continue practicing my pipe and occasionally just floating aimlessly until night begins to settle. As the sun goes down, I head to one of the various inns that has a stage, and if empty or soon to be empty, I float up and begin to fascinate the crowd-

If I did well enough to please the crowd, I try and persuade the innkeeper for a free room-

(Feel free to take your time getting to me, I realize this is a lot of actions all at once)

Kuu'shar
The day goes by quickly as the sun disappears after only a few hours on the sky, the wind also settles, but not the snowfall.
After only an hour of searching trough the streets it becomes obvious that this place contains three inns: Coinwell's Finest, a place seemingly for the successful merchant and rich captain, barely any point in going in for a goblinoid; Coinwell's Furnishing, for the guardsman and average adventurer, this place seems to have room for every average middle-class man, still a place which easily could turn down anyone they wish; then there is Coinwell's For all, a place reeking with booze from far away, entertaining what seems to be anyone with a coin to spare, it even has a female half-orc serving there. If any place seems likely to take in a hobgoblin it would be this place.
As you enter, the stench of cheap booze gets replaced by the scent of cheap perfume, a sign of prostitutes. As soon as the door is closed behind you a balding obese innkeeper stares at you with an unfriendly look and places the glass he was cleaning on the counter, still a little filthy. "what do you want?" he says loudly, stopping the jabber in the background for a few seconds as the focus is suddenly on you.
Eimia
As the sun goes down* you find the inn called Coinwell's Furnishing, containing a stage, when you play there people look at you with fascination, seeming equally enthralled by your strange looks and your ability perform (interpreted "fascinate" as play nicely as you didn't choose one target). The crowd carries on with its calm conversation after a while and as you finish your melody a few people give a polite applause. A blond energetic man seems to have been especially enthralled, and was pinched by one of the people he sat besides, obviously an adventuring party, planning their next travel (maps on the table and the stereotypical look)
As you talk to the Innkeeper he tells you that he would be delighted to help a little missy with a room, but that he sadly can not hand out rooms for free. His proposition is that since the man that uses to sing has a sore throat and cannot entertain today, you could step in and play for a total of one hour into the late hours, he could pay you with a room, and if you play a little more he will be happy to give you some food as well.

This was sort of what I was attempting to do to begin with. But anyways. As you talk to the Innkeeper he tells you that he would be delighted to help a little missy with a room, but that he sadly can not hand out rooms for free. And yeah, sorry I should have picked a different word. When I said fascinate, I just meant amuse the crowd, not my actual fascinate ability.

I make my way through the streets, nodding politely to anyone who greets me while I rummage through my various pockets to see if I can find any coin. If I can't then I head home, deciding that I should at least say goodbye to my parents before I leave for a month or more. As soon as I get a moment of privacy, either in my own room or in a hired one at an inn, I open the first letter the Sheriff gave me.

The atmosphere in the inn rises in tune with the quality of the playing, you are served a well tasting meal, in addition you get served some drink. The night grows late, and people look like they are about to call it a night when the blond man comes up to you.
You see now that he is an unusually tall man, with a faint metal rustle when he walks, even though his clothes bear no visible sign of this, his face looks like he is much younger than his body shows, and he carries himself like an experienced dancer.
He bows deeply before he speaks with a hint of nervousness in his voice "What an admirable performance you make miss, my name is Coragor, I have a short tale i would like to bestow the other guests of this inn, and I wondered if I may ask of you to accompany me with that first tune you played" he smiles pleadingly to you and stretches out his hand to help you up from your seat if you accept.

"I'll not show you the door yet then, you need some food to please your belly as well then I guess, sit down and one of the barmaids will come to you, and three silvers for the room."
You see that the only free table in the inn is a small table with two chairs in a corner, some markings scratched into the wall also catch your keen eye.

You find that you did not have your coins* on your person and go home, there you receive wishes of luck and a good journey, as you find your privacy at home for a moment while gathering your coins you open the letter, the note within is fairly short and reads
"The cargo you will be guarding is worth a lot to the right people. We believe enemies of the receiver might have hired an assassin to finish you off. Trust no one in the caravan, especially not the monsters**. Your extra mission as the leader of safety is to make sure everyone arrive their destination alive, and that the would be assassin is apprehended. Make sure this letter is read by none others than you. Signed Sheriff Dylan."
(*noticed you had written up spyglass as belongings, you might want to reconsider that as it costs 1000 gp)

Night approaches shortly and it becomes time to call it a day, people start to leave for their rooms or homes in rapid succession, starting with Coragor who leaves for his room.

My mind heavy with the implications of the letter, I collect my belongings and start out the door. As an afterthought, I turn back and throw the sheriff's note in the fire, staying long enough to ensure it burns down to ashes. Taking my leave of my parents I set out into town again, heading towards the inn I think I am most likely to find my new companions. I dislike the notion of instantly mistrusting everybody, but I realize that I had best be on my guard and get to know as much as I can about the others in the caravan.

I follow him up discreetly, and when we're in a hallway, I pass above him and float upside down in front of his face, "I'm curious to know what this tale was about?
Is it something of an epic or were you simply going to use storytelling to flirt with me?"

''You have my gratitude'' I lightly bow my head and pay the inkeeper three silvers. The ignoring the people around me I go sit in that corner, and wait for a wench to approach my table in the mean time I look at the scratchings, having nothing better to do.
