Question about class abilities

Post by Necros »

I have been reading Tome of Battle - Book of Nine Swords, and I came across a couple of intresting classes that I am thinking about building a character around. I came across the Warblade as a core class and a prestige class called the Master of Nine.

My question concerning the two classes is this. The Warblade gets an ability called Stance Mastery. With this ability the Warblade can have two stances active at the same time. The Master of Nine however has an ability called Dual Stance, which in effect does the same thing, only not as effective. If anyone knows these classes, or has access to the books, could someone tell me how Dual Stance would affect a Warblade after he has already gotten Stance Mastery?

First off, the Warblade's ability is gotten at lvl 20, so if he even goes in to Master of Nine, he'd be lvl 25 when he gets the MoN ability. At that level, I'd definitly allow it, as the game is broken to hell and back.
As for a pure RAW answer: Yes, I think they stack. 10 rounds a day, a Warblade/MoN could have three stances active.

I am currently running a human warblade 7th level and find it an interesting and fun class. I have discussed Master of Nine with my DM an he has allocated that for me to attain that I must by 20th lvl have to discover the various rituals associated with the weapons of legacy (all Nine) which requires me to do alot of research and spend much money sometimes chasing shadows but always in pursuit of that knowledge.

The class itself is fun especially the maneuvers and stances but choosing what you take for a given day is much more difficult. Also I learn maneuvers and stances much like a wizard does spells. I must find them or someone to teach me them then study them though right now I can have 6known and 4 readied maneuvers as well as two stances for the day I currently know 6 stances and18 maneuvers of which I can study. I keep a manual with me at all times kinda like a spell book and whenever I get the chance to see or learn some new stance or maneuver either by book or practical application I right it down and the DM gives me a new card with what I have just learned. Then each day I choose 6 cards from my group for maneuvers and allocate 4 of those for use as well as two stance cards and each time I execute a stance or maneuver I lay it on the table in front of me and cannot use it again in the same combat. Makes you think alot differently about combat and how to prepare. I think you will generally enjoy this class. It is fun and thought provoking.

Manouvres are changeable between encounters (or even in encounters themselves with the right feat) and you can recharge them in combat. Or is it a houserule?

from what I understand I can change maneuvers anytime I want but it takes me like 15 minutes practice per maneuver and I dont have time during a combat to do that so if I have to change I just adjust after the combat. Now if your takling about changing any of the six known maneuvers into one of the other 12 that I know my undrstanding is I can only do that on a new day. I will check with my DM on this it may be a house rule to keep things from getting out of hand. Thanks for the heads up on that.

I got it straight from the book itself. As written, nothing gets out of hand with Tome of Battle.
Manouvres known can only be changed at certain levels.
Manouvres readied can be changed anytime outside of combat, and with a feat, it takes one round during combat.
Manouvres expended can be recovered in combat, with each class having its own way. Warblade needs to take a Swift Action and a Standard Action to attack an enemy.

I never messed with the warblades. But there is one thing that is right in here. "The game is Broken to **** and back" < True.

But as advice, why not try to make your own class? Its really easy to do and that way you would know everything about it.
