I installed the trilogy pack and I can't save in eather fallout 1 or 2. All it says is that I have an error and it cant save. Also in fallout 1 if i try to zone out of the cave the game says it doesnt have enough space to open the map and crashes.

We need more info, like your operating system, for starters.

First of all, your computer specs would be useful. Also, what versions you have and what patches you have installed? Thirdly, what are the exact error texts you get?

Hey guys, new on the forums. I'm been searching everywhere for a solution to my very serious problem.
Now, from all the stuff I've read around, Fallout 2 seems easier to make work on Windows 7 so I went ahead and got that. Initially, everything seemed to be fine. I've upgraded to killap's Restoration Project patch which I believe is bundled with a whole lot of stuff (some of which I don't really know). Well, the thing is, I can't play this game properly at all. It seems to crash at random times and when I mean crash, I mean, the mouse and keyboard don't work, I can't alt+tab and the whole computer f'in freezes. This means I have to totally reboot the computer which I'm pretty sure is nothing good. It also seems that when the crash occurs, the music is still on but loops every 10 seconds or so.
I've played a bit of this game and I can say to a certain degree that IT'S AWESOME. However, I keep encountering this problem so much that I can't enjoy the game at all.

My research has led me to believe something's wrong with my drivers (or hardware basically).
Here's my specs:

• OS: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
• System Model: Compaq 511
• Memory: 3GB RAM
• Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5870 @ 2.00GHz
• DirectX Version: DirectX 11
• Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 (256MB + some shared)

If anyone can help, please do.

Couple of questions first:
1) Did you try to run the game as administrator?
2) Did you try to run the in XP compatibility mode? Or, as you have Win 7 Professional, have you tried to use the Virtual XP?
3) Did you use either of the above while installing the game?
4) What exact version of Fallout 2 do you have and what patches do you have installed beside the Killap's Restoration back?
5) Is the crashing random, or does it happen in certain situations (like while you move to certain spot, do certain action etc...) or after certain time has passed since you started playing?
6) In what condition is the cd?

Those questions should narrow the problem down somewhat, but seriously the problem may be almost anything between bad luck to driver/hardware problems. Most probable ones are bad cd, failed installation or patching messing things up, or compatibility problems with Windows 7. I have not tried to run the game under Win7 myself, though I could install it just to confirm if it works on Win7 or not.

I can confirm that Fallout 1 and 2 work on Windows 7 x64, thought it requires the use of sfall due do graphical discrepancies.

It's seems running the program as admin did the trick. Although I have to play it a few more times before being sure. Heh, I kind of assumed killap's patch would solve all the problems for me. Anyway, thanks, guys, for the tips. I'll be back if there are any more problems.

i have an issue on fallout 2 where the music doesnt play. Ive tried putting on compatibility settings but that only seems to make it worse as an error comes up saying that it appears i have compatibility settings on. Anyway, the ambience and other sounds work but no music, kind of ruins the fallout experience without the soundtrack in the background.

I went into the file and found that the sound file was empty, im using the DVD that has fallout 1 and tactics as well on it and so far the others havent had these issues, wondering how i can fix this.

Have you tried with other computer? It could be the problem is disc specific, like dirty/scratched/corrupted DVD. Also, what operating system are you using?

tried it on my home computer and laptop, both windows, similar problems, im almost one hundred percent sure it cant be the disc because its brand new and this problem has existed since purchasing the game, have tried many many solutions including those found on this thread but havent had any luck

I did the humongous installation, I installed the patch, I ran as administrator, I ran in compatibility mode, I checked the pathways in .cfg, I own the cd and it is in the computer as I speak. The patch and the game are US. Everything is as it should be, but I still get the "running fallout 2 requires cd" error. I did all this a couple days ago, and the computer has been rebooted atleast a couple times since. I have been looking everywhere for advice, but I can't find anything I have not done yet to get my Christmas Fallout 2 to work T_T

Nevermind guys, I got it running. For anyone who looks at this in the future: my problem was solved by REinstallation using the humongous installation. The first time I tried to reinstall, I was following a lead that said large installation would work better. In my case that was not true. Also, after I reinstalled the game, I reinstalled the patch which I found by googling "fallout 2 patch 1.02." I did originally download a patch that I could not get to install, so if that is your problem, carefully try your luck with another. The are other less important patches, but this is the main one. Also, I have read that the patch you install must match the version of your game. The following website shows the cover art for each version of Fallout 2:
