I have just completed the quest to merge the two halves of the Rift Device and kill the Unseeing Eye. I take the exit to get back up to where the Lich tomb is, but the door is locked and I don't know how to open it.
I kind of remember from previous play through that this door could be opened from the inside or maybe after you killed the Unseeing Eye without any kind of special key or anything, but maybe I'm remembering wrong?
I can't leave the way I came in, so I believe this is the only exit and I can't get passed the dang locked door. (It's the kind that can't be picked or opened with knock spell). Is there something I missed to be able to open this door or is this a bug maybe?
P.S. I also tried to enable the cheat console and teleport my party out, but that isn't working for me either. Can the cheat console be activated with the BG 4-in-1 box set? (I had to buy this set when I finally lost my original discs and wanted to install on my new computer.) I added the line Debug Mode=1 to the baldur.ini and push ctrl-space in game but nothing happens.
Help is appreciated!
Unseeing Eye Bug?
Just to make sure I understand correctly:
- You killed the Eye.
- You took the exit from the eye lair that leads to this small corridor on the other side of the locked door
- The door won't open.
From what I remember, when I take that exit and then click on the door, it says "locked". But after a second, when the party stands around and looks sheepish, it opens by itself, without clicking. But I suppose if that was the case you wouldn't be posting.

Sometimes it has been necessary for me to use the console to get past that bug. Instructions on how to set up the console can be found here.
You'll need to activate the cheat keys - CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys() - then move your mouse pointer beyone the blocking wall and press Ctrl + J

QuenGalad, your understanding is correct. Everything is exactly as you described.
Galraen, for some strange reason, the instructions for activating the console just don't work for me. I added the line Debug Mode=1 directly under [Program Options] in the baldur.ini file, but pressing ctrl + space in game only pauses and unpauses the game. No box comes up where I can type anything. I've used this console in the past, years ago, I just don't know why it isn't working this time around.
The bad thing is I don't have any back up saved games, so this might be the end of the road for this play through. Trapped in some underground lair to die a slow agonizing death.

My immediate suspicion is you have the misfortune of having Vista as your OS; if so let us know. I can't help if it is, I made damn sure never to let that god awful OS anywhere near my computer, but someone on here will.
If however you are running under Windows 7, then be aware that that OS creates a separate set of folders for games under 'My documents' if I recall correctly. If, as with say Oblivion, it keeps the active .ini file ther, that's the one you need to edit. I'm not sure at all about this, but W7 has definitely done that to at lest one of my games. Again, maybe someone with more knowledge of Win& will help out here.

If you are afflicted by Vista like myself, then my advice is make a copy of your saved game, uninstall BG2, reinstall it under a path outside of Program Files (i.e. C:/Games/BG2etc - you may have to create a new file path) making sure to apply the patches and Gibberlings 3 fixpack etc, move your saved game there, and try again, making sure you're able to edit the baldur.ini file by running it as administrator. A websearch on BG2+Vista should provide step-by-step instructions, but the basic/most common problem is Vista won't let users edit files under Program Files, so you need to install it under a different folder. I also suggest doing so for pretty much any older game, and any newer ones too.galraen wrote:My immediate suspicion is you have the misfortune of having Vista as your OS; if so let us know. It doesn't explain the initial can't-escape bug, but the patch and fixpack should hopefully resolve that.
Also, check your autosave, it should have a savegame from just before you entered the beholder lair.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Very much appreciated.
I am running Windows 7. I found some folders for a couple other games in My Documents, but nothing for BG2. I did initially run into the problem of it not saving the baldur.ini file after I made the modification to it. But I was able to fix that by changing the permissions on the file. When I re-open the file, the changes are present. Not sure if doing it this way might cause any problems....
Just fyi, my current game is patched and running g3 fix pack & tweak pack.
If nothing else works, I may just try re-installing the game. It's last resort though because it's a pain to do with the mods.
