vegas advice needed

Post by zippythezip »

Having played fallout 3 and for the most part enjoying the game. I find vegas a little different. Eating food dont seem to adjust my health bar, making me wonder why carry the food if it is of no use?
Stimpacks work by giving some hp back slowly, i can live with this. But foods only have stats of 1 over 5 seconds say for example. I can make a health potion at a camp fire but when consumed it does nothing to the hp bar. There is a hard core mode, which I am not playing but could it be any different?
I have to go out do a quest and then fast travel back to town every time to see the doc, but this is expensive.
What am I doing wrong? Could the survival perk affect my hp(its at 20)?

I gave up trying to figure it out and started a new game. This time I put more points into survival and have added a few mods to the game. The hp now goes up slowly when eating or drinking. What was wrong before I have no idea really.

In Fallout NV food and drink do not provide immediate health as they did in Fallout 3. Only stimpaks do that, and not in hardcore mode. Instead they provide health over time and say so in their discriptions. For example, Sunset Sasperilla provide 2 health a second for 20 seconds, which means drinking 1 will provide 40 health, but you have to wait a little for it. This is working as intended, and I find is better than before where you might get half the amount, but get it immediately, as in the previous game. The point is to use stimpaks in combat and food when you are just running around.

You can heal yourself by resting. Food is pretty much useless.
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Food

Food works great for me, with a survival skill of 25 you can make Gecko steaks, they heal quite a bit, just takes about 10 seconds. If you are hurt, find a decent spot to chow down and you get health back. You can even go back to Goodsprings to get some water to drink to heal yourself, it takes quite a few drinks but it works.

The South Beach inspired Amazing Sunday Vegas Brunch, brings the ultimate taste of decadence to Las Vegas. White-draped lounge beds scatter the outdoor area, under a canopy of umbrellas, surrounding the tropical pool, and overlooking the strips best beach club. A teak deck offers covered dining and a perfect place to enjoy an array of worldly dishes like fresh sushi, gourmet ceviches and mouth watering pastries.
