I noticed someone mentioning restarting the game to fix one problem, and running into another, so I thought I would kick off a topic to list some of the things that you will encounter when you restart the game.
When you reload your character to the beginning of the game, there are certain things that will be "broken":
You cannot get into the elven fort south of Arindale without climbing (the mark of ordained favor cannot be reacquired).
Davenmoor will not give you his letter to give you passage out of Fargrove.
You cannot replay certain quests (ie. Big Bad Mogg, House of Dragon, Mystery Woman, etc.).
The House of Dragon shop is completely broken, since you cannot initiate that quest. There is no need to even go to the House of Dragon, unless you want the spell scroll from the cabinet in there.
Once you have acquired one Staff 'o' the Grove, there is no need for a second; however, there are a lot of experience/advance points to be made by stealing the Totem of the Tree. :mischief:
If you want to, you may skip the Tomb of Souls (although, there are a lot of experience/advance points for completing it, not to mention gaining the other prize after defeating Voraatus, so I would not suggest skipping it). Vartugg will, of course, not give you the password to get to the final dungeon, but it is easy enough to climb into the swamp.
Letters and keys that you gain throughout the game are attached to the game save file, not the character. If you want Davenmoor's letter, for example, use the editor to give it to the character whose save file you will be using to restart the game, and it will be in your character's inventory. (If you want to restart save file 1, and save file 9 is your restart file, give the character in save file 9 the letter.) This also works with all dungeon and quest objects (ie. Sleth's Safehouse, Demon Key, Shadow Stones, Galebriand's letter, etc.). I haven't tried, but I believe the Ring of Talendor also falls into this category.
If there are weapons/armor that you want, which are not in the game, edit them into your restart character's inventory, and sell them to shops.
Add anything else you can think of.
Restarting the Game (full of spoilers by nature of the topic):
If I re-use a character, I either do an artifact run (Catacombs - Elders - Ulm - Talendor - Artifacts - Tomb of Souls - Irynthabl) or I use the editor to reset the quests (except the job / guild related ones), and hex-edit experience back in afterwards. Quickly described, this would be: Start new multiplayer - save - edit - play in single.
Re-using a character and the Tomb of Souls..
When you start a new game with a character that you've already built up through a previous run-through, do you still have the option to bargain with V-bad guy (sorry, I can never remeber his name)?
If so, that would *really* help if trying to reach the 210 mark for intelligence, no? You wouldn't need to run the character through as many times.
I went from 133 intelligence to 157. I was rather pleased with myself. I have yet to turn in the shield, or head to the shadow ruins.

Wulf wrote:I think I've seen twenty-odd characters through the game by now, some more than once, but I've never ever made a deal with Voraatus. I never intend to, either, it's just not my cup of tea. If I do need points to spend on anything, there are the trusty old moonbeasts to farm on.
I haven't done the math, but at 133, if I remember correctly, I needed over 4 million points for my next point. At 157, I need over 20 million points for my next point. (I went from 133 to 157 in that bargain..) I lost the same amount of points from my honor, which was at 96 (24).
Yes, I *could* have sat for days at the island, but I've already done a great deal of training. I'll have to check to see what level I'm at, now, but at 133 Intelligence, I'd done just about as much 'farming' as I could stand. *heh* I still expect to do further, raising my skills, but 133 as a human female was just about as high as I was willing to go.
pre-bargain:
76
133
73
76
78
96
After bargain:
68
157
69
70
72
72
I still killed V, and all the spawned bad guys. I didn't keep track of how many points between b4 and after killing.
I've raised all my attributes back to what they were, except honor and dexterity. (With trinkets and rings I'm getting to close to that bug, and I'm not aware of any benefit to raising honor further?)
I'm thinking it was a good bargain for advance points.

I was going to do this quite a while back and never got around to popping in and posting. Here's the full list of specific things I noticed, most of which Cianaoith already mentioned:
- Maps don't carry over to the new game, so if you're anal about exploration and map completion you'll need to do that again
- Old Hetta gives no new heraldry, nor does she exchange it like the House of the Dragon does (see below)
- Can't enter Custard Mansion or Mog's safehouse (Maloke Brane won't even give you the quest for him)
- Taluk gives no reward for killing vampire
- No House of the Tiger quest
- No Davenmor's orders. He does not give you the quest to find out about Ellowyn (speaking to the maid and such), but immediately charges you to leave for Arindale. You'll have to use a Moon Bridge to leave Fargrove (unless you're using the editor)
- No reward for Erlinmir's flask, he won't even take it from you after you've recovered it
- No quest from Uriel Dane (mark of ordained favor)
**Important House of the Dragon heraldry note:
After recovering the Argalia, you can still get a heraldry from the House of the Dragon. The one you chose the first time will not be available and whichever other you choose will replace that one in your heraldry list. So if you are satisfied with that heraldry, do not speak to the HotD guy. I could not exit out of the conversation without choosing a heraldry that I didn't want.
Perhaps on a third playthrough you may be able to choose the original heraldry again, I don't know.
I only got as far as the ToS on my second playthrough before moving on to something else. Currently, I'm doing a fresh playthrough/new character, don't even have the old save file anymore
