So what is the best character you have ever played or just simply you favorite character?
For me i would have to say...
MacGreine my Minotaur Hunter
He could shoot out the eye of a kobald from 10 miles away with the scope he built for his high power crossbow.

Mine would be Gawain, Bladesinger. My first D&D character. He was especially good at not killing himself despite having the most rag-tag party ever.
Over the course of the years, he has developed in quite the personality.
Another character I enjoy playing, is Gwydre, my Paladin/Crusader. She's in a smaller party, which leaves more opportunity to develop her. It's intresting to try to play as the other gender, without falling to sterotypes.

Kento the Half-Celestial Fire Bender. Its a class my buddy made up, and is still working the bugs out of. Tumble was his best friend. Yea, good memories with him, R.I.P Kento. He came into the world an outcast, yet left it with a family. Yes, Kento has a kid, whos, 1/2 human, 1/4 elf, 1/4 celestial. He died a glorious death, protecting his friends and the woman he loved(a Half-elf Druid) who was secretly planning on taking over the world with Kento's help!!! Ah man, things would have been great if not for that Vampire.....
Zombies are not real! The Government is still doin Human trails!

I have two.
Ajax, 21st level mage NE (1st edition) Second character I ever created. The year was 1979 and the first adventure he went on was "The Keep on the Borderlands". The first character I had was a Cleric named Carston. He died within 10 minutes of that same adventure...
Quinn, 62nd level Bard N (2nd edition). Yes, level 62, never really stopped playing him. He single handedly killed a ghast at 2nd level because the DM's dice rolls were terrible. He was very unscrupulous, very untrustworthy but not overtly evil or chaotic.
I have played a few other characters over the years with my number 3 fave being a cleric of Tempus lvl 15. I always got bored with fighters so I tended to stay with spellcasters.

I was in a campaign where the DM had decided to spice things & used one of the naughty books  I was running a dragon Shaman who ended up getting a portable Wh*re house. I had managed to get placed in an large room ,like a conference hall, big enough to use it in. So when things went sour, I threw it out, triggering it to grow crushing everyone in the room but me as I had barely managed to jump on to its porch. That is by far my favorite character.

My favorite/best character was a 15th level wizard I grew up from level 3. For the majority of the character's life he was running the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evils for 3rd Edition (and he survived a conversion to 3.5 mid-campaign).
Eventually I learned that I could scry on our enemy and then put my teamates in a portable hole and teleport the crew outside the place said baddy was at. We would do this to circumvent many places with gaurds or when we couldn't find someone. This backfired when they started scrying on us and sending summoned demons at us... Luckily I was smart enough to buy a house, have our cleric cast some permanent spell that tethered dimensional beasts and kept people from teleporting out. We barred the doors magically, and used their ambush tactics against them... I think this character was my favorite because of the DM, he really went all out in describing the campaign, and really made you feel for your character.

My best Character has to be Rin, Level 34 (2nd) lets see, Well pretty much he is a group item store. *laughs* I swear I've never be mugged more times on one guy in any D&D game.
Dm - "As you enter the cave you notice its dark, Your lanterns give the only light you can see blah blah blah" Rin - "*Ahem* So before we enter da evil lookin cave. Does anyone want to buy a item *Opens his Robes*" < *laughs*
I think the best night was when we almost died from a dragon and I got hit by a breath weapon, after words I stood up and put a bag of Holding inside a Portable Hole. I don't know your game rules but that ripped a hole in the world which sucked everyone in, "After the DM decide not to kill us all* We where taken back in time. < So really this never happend. *laughs*
