Rumbled!
While dealing with the Mind Flayer dungeon the drow Phaere appeared and claimed that they knew I was not a drow, but was a surfacer in disguise. Now I’ll have to go back to the drow city and just kill em’ all! Does anybody know if I can still rescue the slaves or are they now a lost cause?
I have no idea how my disguise got rumbled either, I was doing everything they asked of me, any body any suggestions?

Perhaps you took too long in rescuing her, an area of effect spell hit her or you spoke an incorrect line of dialog?
I honestly can't remember, but I *think* that you can't rescue the slaves anymore. However, to make up for it, you can rescue to the slaves in the Mind Flayer dungeon.

If you miss any of the timelines demanded by the drow, you are exposed. This means every "main" Ust-Natha quest: you have two days to meet Phaere, three days to get the blood of Underdark creature and so on. The Mind Flayer dungeon is tricky here because the plot events take some time regardless of what you do.
Once you are exposed, slaughter is the only option.

I just do the kill-the-big-bad quests before entering the city, and then wipe out the city anyway after milking it for all the XP I can.
Love me those kuo-toa bolts - 1d12+possible stun, baby!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there two types of bolts, one that does 2d6, and one that does 1d10, and while both paralyze, I think they require different saves.
I'm pretty sure it's possible to return to the Underdark and just sleep enough times to collect bolts to last you through ToB, isn't it?

With me it depends on the state of y party whether I do the Illithid and Behlder quests before or after entering Ust Natha. If I have a small party, and therefore HLAs before entering hte city then I hit the Illithids before. If on the o0ther hand I have a large party, or one than didn't do most of the side quests before going to the Asylum, then I'll leave it until after finishing the city. You only have to do one of the three, and the Kua Toa one is pretty easy by comparison, and as Ode to a Grasshopper* says, those bolts are really nice.

Thanks for the clarification. Also, I'm curious if they actually affect enemies that are immune to magical weapons, or say +1 weapons.

I find the 800-900 you get from just doing everything in the Underdark is usually sufficient. The only 'natural' crossbow users in BG2 are Jan, Keldorn and Mr ToB, who will be either casting or hitting things most of the time after SoA, so by ToB it's all pretty academic anyway.
Odie works, I used to use him as an avatar.galraen wrote:*Almost just said Ode, but that's too much like the dumb dog in Garfield!

From what I remember, they don't. I'm sure I had to switch to enchanted bolts fairly often when using those.Crenshinibon wrote:Thanks for the clarification. Also, I'm curious if they actually affect enemies that are immune to magical weapons, or say +1 weapons.
Also, Kuo-Toa bolts call for a magic save, and I think magic resistance counts towards the result - I remember getting the "magic resistant" comment when using them on the drow. Bolts of paralysis and Drow Paralytic bolts call for paralysis save.

I just checked the Kuo-toa bolts on IEEP and evidently they will not hit enemies that are immune to magical weapons.
There are three typesof Kou-toa bolts
KOBOLT - Are enchanted @ +1
KUOBOLT02 & 03 are enchanted to +3
The kicker is that in game they all have the same description, so no way to tell which is which other than by trial and error. They won't stack with each other of course.
They do, as QG pointed out, allow a saving throw (vs Spells) but do bypass resistance, so good against those pesky Drow and such like.

I have now finished this quest, there was no messing about, I did all the tasks asap, returned the eggs and was taken out of the underdark. You would think I would be happy with this, but...
I never got a chance to clear out the Mind Flayers, The Beholder dungeon or the Kou-toa dungeon (or kill all the drow) so I missed out on loads of great booty and xp, is there a way to get back into the underdark to finish the job or is it a no go area?

Yes, you can go back to the Underdark through the same way you got out - through the passage right next to the elven camp.

Thanks for the info! So I'm in the Drow city killing all round me when I decide its time to enter the Lichs tower, at this point I'm transported to Jarlaxle's room where he tries to bribe me by exposing me as a surfacer. Funny that, there is hardly a drow left alive and I'm obviously human. I love these wee bugs.
 Too bad there isn't a dialogue option for this eventuality...
