Nishiru

Post by ziserman »

Hello all, I've just had a very hard fight with a nishiru, and searching its name gave 2 threads that state how to use it, not how to fight it.

I encountered it in the guarded compound, in the Temple District and the only strategy I could figure out on how to beat it was by moving my 2 spellcasters on one of the rooms and blocking the door with 3 non-spellcasters. What options do I have for killing it? It seemed to go after my mages and I couldn't get any non-mage to draw its attention. Plus, it seemed to draw aggro on mages very far, on a distance where the rest enemies didn't attack me.

Try to use summons to help you pound it.
Buff up your party with spells, scrolls and potions.

If I remember right, it is an anti-magic monster but they're not usually all that difficult if you have some decent melee damage and for that - summons can help you.

A Nishru's sole purpose is to attack mages and sap their power, so they will focus on them naturally. Be aware that not only are they immune to magic, it actually heals them; something to bear in mind when you fight mages yourself, you'll be amazed at the number of mages that aren't aware of a Nishru's nature!

What kind of buffs Xandax? The normal protective/offensive buffs or are there any special ones that can protect my mages against them? For instance I cast stoneskin and the Nishiru didn't cause melee damage, but it still sucked away my spells/items.

If your mages have access to them, Tensers Transformation would be good.
I'm unsure if spell immunity might help - been too long since I've played BG2.

Also potions/buffs which decrease AC will help.

yes. the nishiru is a classic paper / rock scissors type enemy - hit it with melee damage.

It has been a while, but I seem to recall taking one in the guarded compound down fairly easily with a hail of magic bullets, bolts, and arrows. It started chasing Nalia, so I kept running her around the room and furniture. Everybody else stood back and shot it till it dropped. :D

Just use "death spell" or "death fog". Instant kill for Nishruu. I believe dispel magic also kills them, but allows a save, unlike death spell.

Indeed.

There is a rock - paper - scissors system in BG2. But rock (mage / sorcerer) also beats paper and other rocks. Not very balanced, but NPC mages are quite stupid and ill prepared so its only the player character that is unbalanced..
