Ok, so I've played over SoA countless times, i love it, and i want to play ToB, i got it for Christmas a couple years ago and was never able to get it to work because i didn't have a full install. I found the game in a cabinet a couple days ago and decided to give it another go seeing as im a little smarter with how these things work now days.
I couldn't figure out how to do a full install so I faked it by editing the Baldur.ini folder, I made the following changes:
"Install type=1" was changed to "Install type=3"
and
the "[Alias]" section was changed to read:
HD0:=[BG2]
CD1:=[BG2]\CD1
CD2:=[BG2]\CD2
CD3:=[BG2]\CD3
CD4:=[BG2]\CD4
Then I took all the raw data from each disc and put it into the BGII-SOA folder.
This worked to perfection and I was able to get ToB installed, which is farther then ive ever gotten.
So as the instructions tell me i go into the BGII-SOA folder and try to open "Baldur's Gate 2" then it gives me a cryptic error that reads:
"An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 666
Programmer says:Unable to Open
BIF:data:MISSound.bif"
I have no idea where to go from here... i could really use help. Im on a mac and i don't have any Baldur's Gate mods or anything on here. Also I do have the line Debug Mode=1 in the Baldur.ini for the cheat console, i don't know if that could be the problem.
Thanks
T
Trouble playing ToB PLEASE HELP
ToB requires you to have CD5 too, doesn't it? I had a few problems with ToB instal before on my old laptop. What i did was copy/paste the CDX folder from ToB CD to game folder on HDD and THEN ran setup, fixed every problem that i had

It's the full install of SoA that counts. If memory serves, ToB doesn't even give you the option.
You're not able to reinstall ToB because the installation permanently makes changes to the core files of SoA.
