Some questions (spoilers)

Post by Sykar »

Ok I got a couple of questions.

1.) I got 100 approval rating with morrigan, have the romance fully running, killed Flemeth for her and got the grimoire for her, but she still does not want to teach me the Shapeshifting specialization. Anyone got an idea why that is?

2.) Do the boni and the skills of the Duelist apply to ranged combat as well? I'd like to give it to Leilianna but not sure if it's of any use to her.

1 ) A bugg that causes Morrigan to teach you shapeshifting only if you're BELOW 30 approval.

2 ) Yes.

1. Not a bug, but Morrigan's personality. Remember, Morrigan was raised to believe that survival is the most important thing, and that love, beauty, and the like are fleeting, and totally unecessary. Hence, she's the second easiest to bed in Romance (needing only 51 to request being bedded), but actually begs you to end it the higher your approval with her.

For the Record, Zevran is the easiest, needing only 25 approval to ask to do it.

I don't know about 1, but Duelling doesn't work with archery. You'll be able to 'activate' duelling, but all of the subsequent talents will be greyed out and red text will tell you you don't have a melee weapon equipped. It's a complete waste of talent points for an archer. I'd link to screen shots showing this, but Flickr isn't cooperating.

Don't let that dissuade you from using Leliana as an archer though, she's excellent at it, just take Ranger instead, as assassin is also useless to archers.

I beg to differ, galraen.

The +2 to Dexterity (granted when you take the specialization) does help with archers.

But you are correct overall. The skills (Lacerate, Feast of the Fallen, etc) are more geared towards Melee fighters. Indeed, most of the specializations are geared towards Melee.

Actually it's +1 Dex and +1 damage, if it's what you get for picking the class you're better off with an assassin, +2 dex +2.5% Critical chance. Personally I'd rather get the summonings, but each to their own. It's a shame that there isn't any specialisation for archery, but I guess they figured it's lethal enough already, certainly nothing can touch an archer for one hit damage.

Actually, Spirit Warrior works quite nicely with an archer type character. I recommend trying it. The other sepcializations work as well quite nicely.

Whoever said that only rogues can be archers?

But yes, for archers, I do like Assassin and Bard. I will occasionally choose Duelist as well, for the attack and defense bonus. Also, Pinpoint Strike CAN work with ranged weapons if you activate it in melee and then switch to a ranged weapon.

Just a note for the original #1 question. Any specialization you learn becomes available for all of your characters in all of your games, so if you have an old save from when you first met Morrigan, you should be able to get the specialization from her there, and then use it in your current game.

the icon may stay lit, but I'm far from convinced it's still actually working. I'll have to take your word for it though, I won't be playing the game for quite some time.

I do not have the expansion though. But there are some more questions. ;)

1.) If I'd get Awakenings now and install it could I get the new specializations in the OC or are they available for the expansion only?

2.) Is there any conclusion to the romance with Morrigan? All I can do now at 95 approval rating is either breaking the romance or releasing her as she calls it, or keep the romance going and she telling me that I'll regret it.
I kissed er already and joined her in her tent and she gave me her ring. And yes I already defeated Flemeth and gave her the grimoire.
Is there anything else or was that all already?

3.) I could break with her and romance Leilianna. Would that have any further complications with Morrigan?

1.) The new specializations will be available within the expansions, not exactly right away, but close enough.

2.) The Witch Hunt DLC expands on this a little bit, but from what I heard, not nearly enough to bring the matter to a close.

3.) She wouldn't leave the group, if that's what you're asking, but it will shoot down any chance of having a romance with her.

I do have a romance with Morrigan. That is my problem it's kinda over already. All I get is her whining that love is a weakness and she wants me to release her.
I can either refute that or let her off the hook so to say.
It feels like the romance is already over but it kinda felt short so my question still stands: is there more to come from Morrigan or should I break up with her and continue with Leilianna.
And she doesn't let me learn the Shapeshifter specialization but I got the Arcane Warrior now so don't care about it anymore.

Specializations tend to have more than one way to unlock. Some have to be unlocked in awakening or DLC.

Spoiler
Only Duelist has one method to unlock, and Varathorn has the Shapeshifter manual for sale.
