Bug after "finishing" the Italien Dinner Quest

Post by Memento »

Hey there.

At first, I used the site search in order to see if this happened someone else before - appears as if not.

I got into the sarcophagus room in the basement of the Giovanni Mansion, started fighting those two Kuei-jin brothers and killed them. Got my experience points and the information, that the Quest was finished. As I read, a cutscene would normally take place now - but not in my game >.<'.
I'm just standing or walking in this room and nothing happens. I can't leave it again the way I came into it, too.
Did I forget something or is this really a bug? I tried it several times, but nothing changes.

Any ideas? ._.

Go to the sarcophagus and try pressing the "E" key. If that doesn't do anything you may just have to reload a recent save and try again. I just arrived in Chinatown and will see if I get the same problem.

BTW, did you install any patches? if so, what version.

Doesn't work - the game doesn't even show me the icon, which says that there's anything to do with the sarcophagan, on the bottom of the screen.
I suppose I'll play the whole mansion a second time, not only the boss fight, so that I'll see if I made a mistake...

I patched the game, but with a rather old patch version - 3.9a .
I would like to install a patch which is a little bit more "up to date", but I'm afraid that my savegames won't work anymore if I do so - or doesn't that raise any problems?

I'm running UP 7.2. Once I defeated the Chang brothers I received the XP and "Quest Log Update" messages but I had to go over to the sarcophagus and use the "E" key to exit the mission (see the attached picture). Otherwise my character remained in that crypt indefinitely. This must be a new "feature" as I seem to remember that this mission would auto-exit once you defeated the Chang brothers.

Wow, that's an old patch. Everything I've read says you shouldn't update an in-progress game. Hopefully this was just a glitch that wont happen on your second attempt. If not, maybe master Wesp knows a console command to force the game to advance.

If you are early enough in the game, it doesn't matter if you patch, or not. I would say Santa Monica would be a good place to add a patch, but before too far into the game at all.

Ok, I was able to handle the problem^^
Playing through the whole mansion for a second time didn't bring any effect, so I decided to patch the game with the latest unofficial patch 7.2 . My savegames work as good as they did before (ok, I made a backup too, just in case they would not xD) and I was able to interact with the sarcophagan, so I can finally go on :)
Also, the patch had another nice effect, all texts are translated into german... so I'm no longer compelled to read english while playing :p

Thanks for your help ! :)

Just remember that if you have a game in progress, and there are no major changes to the start of the game, then you should be good to go to patch. I do, however, recommend reading everything before you patch the game, to be sure that you don't miss anything. And it is recommended that you finish most of your quests before you go to the sarcophagus. Usually I do all the side missions before I do the main ones. A good walkthrough helps with this. And this site has a really good walkthrough.
