Hey, i just wanted to see if you guys got any cool spells that don't require cheating or using glitches. I got a couple and they work wonders.
Bash Lock: Fortify Security 100 points for 1 second on self. Makes it super easy to unlock locks.
Recover: Restore 5 hp for 1 seconds on self, Invisibility for 1 seconds on self. This makes it you can keep casting it without any one killing you. So you could just cast this and run away from the enemy.
Lucky Bargain: Fortify Mercantile 100 points for 1 second on self, Charm 100 points for 1 second on touch. This makes it so when you sell your goods, you will get a much better deal, also do this if you are gonna buy stuff too. Also with Fortify mercantile 100 points makes it so you can invest too.
These work well for me, and they should for you too.
Bash Lock: Fortify Security 100 points for 1 second on self. Makes it super easy to unlock locks.

Best spell I currently use are two offensive spells:
- Weakness to Magicka 100 for 5 sec
- Weakness to Fire 100 for 5 sec
- Weakness to Frost for 5 sec
Followed by another spell (if you combine them the weakness effect is ignored):
- Fire damage 20 for 5 sec
- Frost damage 20 for 5 sec.
Works realy well because damage is multiplied by 4 because of the weakness effects. When I get more magicka I will upgrade to more damage and a longer duration.
Best- Firefrostshock:
-30 Fire for 5 sec.
-30 Frost 10 feet
-40 shock
Yes I hacked, but BAD A** spell.
Worst- Swordmans Blessing:
-100 sword 5 sec.
-100 Strength 5 sec.
It dose nothing, but makes you do 1 attack power!!!!!!!!
Not sure why... must be a Glitch.
P.S.- sorry I really didn't help with the "Spell Idea" thing.

Practice Illusion - Light 1 sec on Self. Magicka should regenerate faster than you can cast it, so use it repeatedly while trudging out of the bottom of a dungeon after you've killed everything to get some benefit from those otherwise unproductive minutes. Hey, when athletes aren't competing they train, when musicians aren't performing they practice, why not Mages? This will also help your Personality bonus next time you level up. Same idea can be used to create a practice spell for any school you need to practice (I need Illusion practice since I don't use that many Illusion spells in the normal course of adventuring). WARNING: don't practice like this on a school you picked as a major skill, or else you will level up too fast and your attribute bonuses will suffer. If you min-max your stats, be extra careful using this technique with any school, major or minor, and when you increase your skill by 10 points stop practicing until the next time you level up.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

You mean you actually waste attribute points on the most useless thing in Oblivion? Why?
This is the basic form of a game killer spell. Spoiler, highlight to read
Spoiler
Invisible death
Invisibility for 4 seconds on self +
Absorb Health 4 points for 3 seconds on touch
Damage health 3 points for 3 seconds on touch
Frost/Fire damage 3 points for 3 seconds on touch
requires 25 skill in Restoration
or
Invisibility for 4 seconds on self
Damage health 4 points for 3 seconds on touch
Frost/fire damage 4 points or 3 seconds on touch
Shock Damage 3 points for 3 seconds on touch
requires 25 skill in Destruction
Expand on either as your Restoration and/or Destruction skill increases
Or if you prefer:
Drain Health 50 points for 1 second on target, novice in destruction is all you need, this will kill anything you meet up until about level four, by which time you should be able to create Drain Health 80 points in 10' on target or better. As you get better at destruction Drain 100 + elemental damage on target. By the time you start running into flame Atronachs you should be able to cast Drain Health 100 points for 1 second on target + 51 points of elemental damage (excluding fir obviously) on target, which is instant kill, you should be able to add Soul Trap for 1 second too!
Being a mage in Oblivion really is a cake walk, zero challenge once you get the hang of creating your own spells. Being a straight fighter is much more testing.

Admittedly, the possible Personality bonus from Practice Illusion isn't a very impressive side effect.galraen wrote:![]()

I once actually tested the affects of personality on illusion spells using the console to drastically increase personality, and I couldn't see any difference at all, which pretty much disgusted me, and has made me even more scornful of the attribute than possibly is justified.Admittedly, the possible Personality bonus from Practice Illusion isn't a very impressive side effect.

High Personality is supposed to make people like you better, and thus provide you with info for which you would otherwise have to use bribery or spells. It does that job. But you can get along fine without it.
On the other hand, aside from the Personality bonus, Illusion spells are very useful, so it is worth the effort to practice illusion for such little things as providing light, blending into the scenery, and invisibility. I personally use Chameleon and Invisibility in tandem, cos Chameleon normally lasts longer than Invisibility, and gives you cover if Invis runs out when you are in view of several necromancer, vampires, liches, etc.
It is not wise to have Illusion as a Major.

You can get away with having illusion as a major if you combine spells so that the spell is classed under another school. I hardly ever use chameleon due to the horrible 100% glitch in part, but mainly because I hate the refraction effect.

Yeah - you mean the 'glass' of 'water' look? I hate that, too. Sometimes can't be sure you have your weapon equipped, either. And it's the same with invisibility, of course. What IS stupid, though, is that people who need to see you - shopkeepers and such - can see you just fine.galraen wrote:You can get away with having illusion as a major if you combine spells so that the spell is classed under another school. What's worse is that enemies that have "detect life" cannot.Fljotsdale wrote:Yeah - you mean the 'glass' of 'water' look? I hate that, too. I've just been forced to search out a fix for the refraction problem. One of the mods I'm running triggered it's perk for 100 Sneak, Legendary Chameleon. The annoying part is that I only got to 100 by using a fortify sneak spell to pickpocket someone! Also it makes your weapon etc. completely invisible.
Anyway there is a fix:
In the construction set open Gameplay>Settings
Scroll down to fChameleonMaxRefraction and set it to zero, do likewise for fChameleonMinRefraction and refraction is removed. I've yet to determine if it removes the 'invisibility' as far as others are concerned.

Interesting, galraen. Let us know if you find out! Cos, in certain circumstances - like when my character is a wimp - I'd hate to lose access to Invisibility!

I've been doing some testing with the edited gameplay settings with curious results.
At 0 chameleon, which is what I get with the legendary chameleon the refraction is completely gone.
As I increased chameleon my weapons had a ghost like, but not shimmering appearance, much better IMO.
However once chameleon reached 100 the ghosting disappeared and the weapons appeared as normal.
The absence of refraction seems to have no effect on whether opponents can see you though, I was still able to get 6X damage on every attack with the victim standing there like an idiot at 100 chameleon. They'd better get this dumb glitch sorted in Skyrim that's for sure!

I do more tinkering than creating
Some of my favorites:
Extended summoning times for Daedroth, Dremora Lords, Skeleton Champions, Voracious Hungers and Gloom Wraiths. 25-35 seconds is too short, especially for Daedroth and Dremora Lord since they take some time to get going. I find 50 seconds to be optimal. At 50 seconds with a 100 Conjuration, the magicka costs are 123, 157, 152, 175 and 260 respectively. Don't waste time with Liches or Spider Daedra.
Multi-second damage spells. I like to use 10 second damage spells (especially fire) against archers and mages, since it helps me keep track of them in the dark while dealing constant damage. Also, damage for dreated spells tops out 100, so multi second spells are necessary to exceed that limit. The most deadly I have used so far is 45/second over 10 seconds (293 magicka). This will take out Dread Zombies (and many others) in one shot. At lower levels 10/second is quite effective, too. Naturally, these can be paired with the appropriate weakness spell.
Area of Effect damage spells cast on self. If you have a high resistance to particular type of damage, then these spells can be quite powerful against groups, since self spells are cheaper than target spells.
Detect Life & Night Eye set to the same duration. Just a useful combination (as vampires well know).
Invisibility & Night Eye set to the same duration. It can be really annoying having your night vision go out when you need to remain invisible. This allows to recast both simultaneously, thus remaining invisible.
