ok, my uncle got oblivion in 2006 so i was bout 7 at the time, and i always wondered what the other elder scrolls were, so i got his old xbox out from the shelves and plugged in the harddrive and started playing morrowind after he told me bout it, then after that i wondered, what were the ones before the elder scrolls 3, i googled, but found nothing, could any1 tell me what they are?
First two Elder Scrolls Games
The first were Arena and Daggerfall. They are pretty good, but they are completely different feeling games from the more modern Morrowind and Oblivion. It may take some getting used to for a younger gamer.
I believe uesp.net has a free (and legal) download of Daggerfall that's already converted to dosbox and ready to play.

The graphics are greatly dated in comparison. They are similar in look to Doom, with the flat characters and 2d surroundings. However they are also much older games.

If those don't look like your cup of tea, I would recommend Gothic 2 for PC. Smooth looking game, similar to Morrowind and Oblivion. It has a lot of freedom in character progression as well. Plus a much better sense of humor than the Elder Scrolls series.

I'd agree wit5h Xandax if Daggerfall wasn't so badly bugged, even after the patch. The patch is essential, as the game was unplayable without it, make sure you've got the latest version.

there's also Battlespire and Redguard (and the never released but allegedly almost finished sequel to Redguard titled Eye Of Argonia) which are connected to the series. Battlespire from what I've read seems to take place alongside the events of Daggerfall while Redguard is set much further in the past in an earlier version of the Empire
other than Morrowind (which I loved) and Oblivion (which I liked at first but quickly became bored of and eventually began to dislike but was stubborn enough that I had to finish at least the main quest) I've only played Redguard, which is an enjoyable game but doesn't have the same depth of character development. the story is fairly good though and if you can look past the terrible graphics (remember when 3D games really looked like crap?) you'll probably like it if you enjoyed Morrowind

i liked morrowind, i just didnt care for the map, there was no fast travle so it took gold and time to get anywhere, and there was no compass thing like on oblivion to point you in the direction, so i have to keep looking at the map. but the rest is great other than its nearly impossible to hit anything unless you are very skilled in the wepon typ you are using.vio wrote:there's also Battlespire and Redguard (and the never released but allegedly almost finished sequel to Redguard titled Eye Of Argonia) which are connected to the series. I disliked Daggerfall intensly for various reasons. Most because of the terrible automap and random dungeons were so incrediby boring and if you were not careful you could get lost there easily.Xandax wrote:DaggerFall is the only one of the ElderScrolls games I've liked.
Morrowind and Oblivion just felt dumbed down too much and boring after DaggerFall IMO.
Tips like letting stuff fall down at certan points did nt allevate such grave mistakes.
Combat wasn't better. While the different angles for slashes gave certain benefits it sooner or later culminates to a wild flayling with the mouse without adding depth to combat.
Being able to get 100% magic absorption while increasing your susceptabilityto magic was really silly.
All towns looked so extremly similar that the amount of towns didn't matter. They grew boring fast.
Morrowind was superior in atmosphere and story imho. While they did cut some skills it was not so extreme that I could not live with it.
Even without language skills Morrowind was more interactive in regards to dialogue imho.
Oblivion was incredibly stupid imho though.
Battlespire and Redguard are not part of the original TES serie. Battlespire is an Elder Scrolls Legend game and Redguard goes under the name of Elder Scrolls Adventures. They are Elder Scrolls games, but not part of the original serie. It is a sidestep, just like Age of Mythology is with Age of Empires.vio wrote:there's also Battlespire and Redguard (and the never released but allegedly almost finished sequel to Redguard titled Eye Of Argonia) which are connected to the series.
