All right, so this isn't the most plot-oriented game in the world. Fairly predictable in its main direction from the moment you see the intro about the sword and shield, really. But there still are some interesting points, even if what really keeps us going is the hope of finding the last piece of a set
However, there are some moments that really bother me. For example, why does the hero get away with killing Advisor Kynos? He was an annoying coward, but he was right! Collecting the shield only meant that the cataclysm repeated itself, and, as we find out in BW, Kalrathia was totally destroyed. What's more, the hero has no proof whatsoever of his involvment in Lord Kalrathia's death, and the advisor doesn't even attack, he's just refusing to give him the key, with good reasons.
That moment is really strange. Anyone else bothered by this?
Anyone feels like discussing the plot?

You mean the game where you start as a farmer, and annihilate 3,4 million enemies on your way to the capital, to then kill the end boss under the palace (after a long lift ride down) only to return to shoveling the crap all day? (or how did it end? I cannot remember)
It's dungeon siege, right?
With the guy.. Ulfgrim?.. who wants half a milion gold coins to join you? Assuming a medieval-dungeon siege coin weights 8g you have to give him 4 tons of gold coins.
No problem Ulfgrim, let me just get my purse out
I don't even remember the motivation behind dungeon siege characters crusade against darkness. Ruined crops? Foul mood? THAT time of the month? They took his job? I only remember that i was minding my own business, working with my fine dirt on my farm.. And then it was just a blur or right clicking on the enemies..
Wait! Maybe the main character worked in the sun for too long, and that's how the 'adventure' started. That's why farmers need to wear hats in sunny days
In short.. what plot!?

I'm with Stworca here... I feel like I must've spent my time playing dungeon siege in a haze. I can't remember anyone's name... I remember I had a donkey or tow... I remember hacking orc like things to death with farming tools... I remember lots of mines and caves... I remember the chronic wrist pain and wearing out my mouse... I remember getting as far as the lift ride in the castle and thinking Why the F*** am I here again? And quitting. What I don't remember is the game giving me any real motivation for caring one way or the other...
Two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do!

QuenGalad is clearly talking about Dungeon Siege II.
I just replayed the first game and I have to agree, there is almost no plot. Krug are attacking! Tell other people! Kill the Krug. Goblins are behind the Krug attack! They have a magic staff. Get the staff! Kill the Goblins. The Seck are behind the Goblins stealing the staff! Kill the Seck. End.
The second game was a masterpiece in storytelling compared to the first. I remember Lord Kalrathia dying, and it's been a while, but I remember it being really really obvious that Kynos poisoned him. And...the hero didn't know that he was being played by the archmage. Reassembling the shield of Azunai was supposed the last hope for civilization. The hero had proved himself to the elves and the dryads, and had saved the town like three times already. If anyone deserved the key, the hero did.

Yeah, somehow I forgot to mention it's DS II i mean...
You're right, Flix, the hero has saved pretty much everyone on their way there. However, I can't see how Kynos would have been involved from what we knew. Teruth (the rebellion leader) then says that Lord Kalrathia was in good health etc, and pretty much points to Kynos. But that's after we slaughtered him.
And, yes, we don't know that we're led by the archmage, but we do know that the last time the sword and shield met there was a cataclysm. Why would that change now?
