Game recommendations.

Post by Malicia »

I very nearly lost all my will to game and didn't play anything in a long time. I recently found The Witcher by looking around a bit here on the site but now I've almost finished that so it'd be great if you guys and girls could recommend some other games for me. Don't want that no gaming thing to come back ever again. :(

I love the Baldur's Gate games along with IWD and NWN. I've also played KOTOR 1 & 2, Morrowind, Oblivion, the Diablo games, Titan Quest, Dragon Age and I don't know what I might have forgotten. Probably alot. It doesn't have to be brand new games. I thought the Witcher was great, even though it's been out for a few years and I just found it. :)

Thanks!

While quite heavy on the "action" side of Action RPG, Mass Effect 1 has an excellent story. I enjoyed it a lot.

I suggest you take a look at the Fallout series, Planescape: Torment, Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Psychonauts (Adventure/RPG), Grim Fandango (Adventure) and Alpha Protocol. At least that's all I can think of by starting at my desktop.

What the.. Has no one on GB played Gothic series?

I recommend gothic 1! Gothic 2 - no. Gothic 3 - too bugged, despite 1751789 patches and has insane system requirements for a game from 2006, should you however endure the bugs, and have a good enough PC.. Gothic 3 may very well be the best RPG you've ever played. I cannot review it yet, because it could get both a 5/10 and a 9/10 at the same time, depending on which parts one scores highest.

I've played the Fallout games, except for the two new ones (3 and New Vegas). Also Planescape Torment and Grim Fandango. I tried Arcanum not long ago but it was a little bit too old to be played for the first time, unfortunately.

Don't ask my why I haven't played the new Fallout games. Ok, heard a lot of bad stuff about nr 3 but only good about NV. Guess I just forgot about them. :o

I wouldn't worry about the new Fallout games. It's the first two that really matter, in my opinion.

As for Arcanum, I had trouble getting into it as well, but after I did, I thought it was well worth it. I think that it definitely offers a lot of freedom and customization with your character. More so than most other games.

Just find some popular mods for the NWN 1 and 2 engines. Like Tortured hearts by Subassman.

The recent years have beem somewhat uninspired in regard to roleplaying games, for the people on the market do simply not bother to do something new and daring.

The only RPG games I have liked for the last years are the Witcher, Drakensang games, Gothic 3, and NWN 2 (unoriginal but still fun).

Before that it was probably just KOTOR and NWN:Hordes of the Underdark.

These 3D engines have ruined the RPG-games. Wish the graphic would again become bad.

Actually, I think the rise of voice-over has as much to do with the decline as the focus on graphics: it's cheaper and easier to write tons of text with the occasional voice over, than to pay an actor to act out that same amount of text. SNES RPGs ruled, and without voiceover. ;) Kids and their fancy toys nowadays...
