Grout's Tapes
Does anyone know who the He that Dr. Grout refers to in the last two to three tapes in the Calling Dr. Grout Quest?
Here are the transcripts from the last three recordings:
Entry 7:
As I expand my dealings with the vampire government, I have encountered a disturbing new symptom of this affliction. Frequently, in conversation, I will hear voices emanating from other vampires. Voices that are not their own but which seem to have insight into their lives beyond what I could gather from simple conversation. These voices seem to echo from deep within my fellow vampires and I cannot be certain if this symptom belongs to my strain of illness or theirs, for the voices are various and inconsistent. I dare not mention this symptom to my vampiric peers, for they have proven themselves true predators to whom I could be loathe to reveal any sign of weakness. Indeed, these voices have counciled me against confessing their presence and until I can confirm their source, I will listen. The information the voices have given me ranges from curious to frightening. The latter is especially true of one powerful vampire whose name I shall not commit to recording in the interests of self preservation.
Entry 8:
The voices have increased in frequency and direction of late. They have begun to stay with me long after conversation has ceased and are serving as quite a distraction. I fear others are beginning to notice my preoccupation at the vampire gatherings. I am thinking again of the particular vampire of whom I spoke of previously, who I dare not name for my growing fear. If the voices are to be believed, then my caution is warranted, for they speak of his blackest crimes both past and future. More than once I have seen the suspicion in his eyes and heard the distrust in his voice when speaking with me! The fear must register on my face for it is all I can do in these moments to keep from crying out in chorus with the voices!
Entry 9 (last entry):
I am no longer safe - I know it! The voices have proven themselves authentic, and I have withdrawn from the vampire society entirely. My absence will no doubt draw attention, but I could no longer hold my fragile composure around the ravenous eyes of my vampire peers, especially not around him! The voices compelled me to make what I fear is a Faustian bargain. But I had to, for their demands are constant and merciless. I have secluded myself within the mansion. I know he will strike out at me. He will go to any length to achieve his ambitions, and he knows that I know!
I have taken precautions to protect my beloved wife. A cure will have to wait until our immediate safety is guaranteed. The mansion was constructed with security in mind, but at that time I was not privy to the full range of vampire capabilities! The voices echo in the twisted corridors of my psyche, dark whisperings of a macabre and formless menace, the approach of which portends an end, an end to all of this!

Entry 8 is definitely referring to. How could Grout see and speak to ?
Entry 9 the first paragraph is about and the second, specifically the last sentence, sounds like it is either about ("formless menace") or ("an end to all of this").

LaCroix didn't want Grout dead. There are other players, as well. None of the other primogens or even the Anarchs don't want the lose of Grout. There is someone else who would benefit from the death. Think about it.

Okay, the character in question has to be a Kindred (that eliminates humans, ghouls, thin-bloods, and KJ), has to be a member of the Camarilla (that eliminates the Sabbat, the Giovanni, and independent characters like Pisha and Beckett), isn't a primogen according to you (that eliminates Gary and Strauss), and isn't an Anarch according to you (which eliminates Nines, Jack, Damsel, et al). So that leaves Jeanette/Terese, Bertram Tung, Mitnick, Imalia, Barabus, and LaCroix. I don't see any of these six characters, except the last, as being very powerful and ambitious.
I have a feeling you are thinking it is Jack. My understanding of Jack's plan was that he wanted to have the Cam and the KJ fight each other over possession of the sarcophagus and key. This would divert attention away from the Anarchs and also weaken both factions. The winning faction would be further weakened or possibly crippled once the sarcophagus was opened. With both opponents weakened, the Anarchs could retake the city.
How does Ming assasinating Grout and framing Nines fit into the above plan? It doesn't. I can't believe Jack hired Ming to assasinate Grout.
Why would an Anarch bring Camarilla indictment and a blood hunt down on Nines? He/she wouldn't.
What threat or obstacle did Grout pose to Jack? None.
Did Grout's death disrupt the Cam government? No.
Was LaCroix affected by Grout's death? Not really, he was more upset over Gary's selling the info to the Giovanni.

Ming does have a big part to play in the whole game. I believe that Dr. Grout was speaking of the Prince. However, it could also have been someone else, as well. It could also have been Nines. LaCroix isn't all that old, according to some of the side things I've read. I'm thinking at about 300 years old. The whole game isn't too complicated, but it does have some nice turns in it. You should try Malkavian as your character. The Malkavian insights are actually interesting. I feel that out of all them, that they are insightful, and have a sort of twisted way of looking at things, and are generally right in them.

I think it was to throw some misdirection around. I do, however, think that Ming did it on her, with her own agenda.

I think this was explained by Ming and if you ask LaCroix about it, he even admits it: "It was a difficult decision to make. But I only did it for the greater good. The Kuei-jin did not question my scheme, but I did it to bring all Kindred under Camarilla govern. It's coming back to me now. It's not later in the game that you hear about things. I should have said I don't remember who, off the top of my head, ordered Grout's death. I personally believe it was more than just what was stated. He was warned about LaCroix from the voices. And you really shouldn't argue with those voices.

Two possibilities
I - Like the malkavian protagonist, Grout foresaw the future, in which He indeed He planned Grout's death
II - Grout is paranoid while He would naturally not trust Grout who is an outsider with his own agenda and (lack of) loyalties. Grout's paranoia blows that mistrust out of proportion

damn playing malkavian before and never notice the voice in my head.
Seriously i thought the voice is the ghost of the ocean hotel that i curse in Damnation so i don't listen to my voice until later in my game.
