Solo Thief Questions...

Firstly, I would just like to say it's nice to finally have an account here on Gamebanshee,

but anyway, I'll get on with my questions.

1. What (In your opinion) is the best Dual Wield combo for a Solo Pure Thief? I tend to Role Play more then Power Play so just keep that in mind. I am currently using the Short Sword Of Mask & Kundane.

2. When I try to backstab with Haer'Dalis's Swords (Entropy & Chaos) It reads "This Weapon is unusable for backstab"
Is their anyway around this? I really would like to have Chaos's DEX draining effect but if I can't backstab with it...

3. When I go to the De' Arnise Keep with my Solo Thief my backstabs seem to fail 75% of the time.

I will try to attack a foe but I don't receive an attack role, & no damage is done. It stops as soon as I leave the De' Arnise hold but has anyone else had this problem?

Hey bud,

I'm looking at the soloing the game myself but with an assassin. Anyways, if you using a pure thief then you don't want to dual wield cause a thief's THACO is terrible and you can't put more than 1 star into the dual wielding style or the weapon itself. So I would put the one star into single weapon style and then make sure your using a one-handed thief weapon that can be used for backstabbing like daggers, short swords, long swords, scimitars, katana's etc...As far as his swords go, how are you using them? Both say they can only be used by a tiefling? Outside of that, they're both short swords so they should work. Not sure about the bug your experiencing at De' Arnise Keep. I've never come across that one before

Welcome to GameBanshee.

1. cbarchuk covered the first one well. I have no comment.

2. The reason you can't backstab with his swords is because they are not useable by a pure Thief. As a rule of thumb, if a Thief without Use Any Item cannot use it, then he cannot backstab with it.

3. Who are you trying to backstab? Are you actually backstabbing your enemies from behind? Do you actually get a "Your backstab seems to have failed" message or are you just unable to hit the enemy?

Crenshinibon - I simply can't hit the enemy. I would Hide In Shadows, go behind a troll or Yuan ti or some such, & miss then entirely. No attack roll, no "your backstab seems to have failed".

cbarchuk - I actually find using two weapon style to be very powerful, even with my Solo Thief. Early on he was pretty weak, but with the right swords & accessories a Pure thief can use Two weapon style to great affect.

If your interested I am currently in the Underdark, slicing up some duegar :mischief:

All thief classes, with the exception of the Swashbuckler, miss way too much while dual-wielding for me to consider that powerful. If it works for you, that's great though. I play all of my thieves (swashbucklers excluded) as exclusive backstabbers.

Is it possible that you just missed hitting the enemy or that they enemy you attacked was under the effects of Stoneskin, Iron Skins or Mirror Image?

Hmmmm... this is getting difficult to explain.

There are NO stoneskins, Ironskins, mirror images, or any spells of any type on the creature I attempted to backstab. I just received no feedback that I had attacked at all, & I became visible again. Whatever bug this is it only occurs in the De' Arnise hold, but I just thought someone should know...

Unfortunately, I haven't encountered such a bug. Perhaps if you zip the folder which contains the contents of that particular save and attach it to the thread, I could take a look at it and see if I can make something out.

Well, Golems are immune to backstab for a start, and the Yuan-Ti usually have True Sight IIRC, but aside from that I dunno what's going wrong for you.

Thank you Chrenshibon for the offer, but I 'll just go without backstab for De'Arnise Keep. Thankfully, I have experienced no other bugs in the rest of the game. My Thief just killed Lllasera in about 5 seconds with with my trusty cutthroat :devil:
