My pet peeve is when someone needs help, but does not tell others what worked when they find a solution. Basically install a NOCD crack for KOTOR. The Nocd crack will get you past the launcher screen, thus the error. I read the advice here: The MMO Spot: Fixing the "FAAB" error on Knights of the Old Republic for PC

or just delete the intro movies from the game folder and run kotor in winXP SP2 compatibility mode as administrator
