Hide in shadows/ move silently questions

Post by spiritualis »

I have a fighter/thief character and i was wondering if wearing a helmet adds a negative modifier to hide in shadows and/or move silently like wearing armour does?

Also, does anyone know how much of a negative modifier daylight has with regard to hide in shadows and/or move silently?

(Basically, i want to know the amount of points i need in hide in shadows and move silently to succeed nearly all the time; while wearing a helmet and studded leather armor in sunlight)

AFAIK, helmets don't add any penalties to thief skills, nor does daylight/nighttime have any effect that I'm aware of. 100 points in hide and move silently should make your attempts succeed 100% of the time as long as there are no enemies around. I've never had any problems with it at that skill level.

I believe that boots give you penalty to move silently and i'm almost sure that helmet's have no influence on hiding or sneaking. Aside from that? No idea, sorry.

Although it is more pronounced in BG1, at least to me, there does seem to be a difference when my thief is in a well lit area as opposed to one that is in shadows. In Irenicus' dungeon, I have had Yoshimo try to hide in a lit (even modestly lit) area and often fail, but every attempt in a darkened area seems to work. Imoen's hide in shadow ability is low to start with so does work for her. In BG1, if I am outside day or night does make a difference and in the daylight if I want to hide, I almost always have to find a shady tree to park under when I make the attempt. That usually will work if the H.I.S. % is at least 40ish or so.
