Thinking of picking this up...

Post by cbarchuk »

I just came across this title on GoG. I was thinking of picking it up. Just wanted to get a few opinions on the game itself. Everything I've read seems to say that its very very close to 3.5 ruleset. Also if I got the GoG version, what patches would then still be needed? Would I still need patch 2 and the Co8 fix or whatever its called? Thanks for the help. Looking forward to hopefully trying this out.

Yea I read a bit of that thread earlier. Yikes, not really sure what to expect. Well I went ahead a purchased it anyways. It's downloading right now. I think I read it comes already patched. Do I need to add anything else to it. I know Co8 has an awesome mod out there. But I was thinking of just playing the game as is first. What do you think Stworca?

I didn't use any mods, the game was great without them.
The only issue is length, and this may be the only reason to mod the game.

If anything you should go with the co8 standard version for a first playthrough. No reason really why not to. The NC adds too much stuff and can throw the main game off balance if you don't do things in a certain order. It's pretty cool though and definitely warrants additional playthrough(s).

Yea I've heard it's pretty short. I started the tutorial and died in it...lol. So I'm still getting used to it but it seems pretty sweet. As far as the Co8 mod goes, you got two versions: The normal one and then the NC one. Daynov your saying I should just install the normal one? I know that's what you just said:laugh:, just want to make sure. Thanks. Can't believe I've never played this game.

Also I created one character and then just took along 4 other pre-gens. Should I bring along and of the NPC's that I meet in Hommlet and, if so, who? I currently have a rogue, ranger, barbarian, cleric, and sorcerer in my party.

Make all of the characters yourself. Really.
I never took any NPCs with me, except when necessary for a quest. They take loot, and you can't control which loot. Moreover, it was simple enough without them.
