Urgoths Are Broken in the CE

Post by swcarter »

There is a part in the CE where urgoths can't fit through a trap door above a ladder. We get about a post a week from people discovering this bug, so hopefully this sticky thread will warn them in advance not to play the urgoth race.

If you do play an urgoth, there are some ways around the problem. Start with this thread, or do a search on "urgoth" and see what you find.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

bug?i dont know if it is because of urgoth

i play a character that is urgoth and i encountered a bug, that makes imposibble for me to continue the game.I mention that I play the "collectors edition" and that it seems idiotically that the guard elf lets you in just if you got the approval of the elven council( which is in the exact place where the elf doesnt let you in-arindale)

So, after a short documentation on this site, I found out that I must find a tower with a celestial altar of peace, and there I must pray so that I should get the mark(that will allow me to enter the elven lands-arindale)>Here comes the bug-I found the tower, killed the shade and when I mounted the second ladder, to the top of the tower- my charcater cannot climb it-I mean it climbs to the top but there it cannot ascend to top's floor, it remains over the last steps of the ladder, climbing away not actually progressing!!!I tried different saves, i return to Fragrove so that I load a different screen , then come back there, all for nothing. It realyy pisses me off, it was a well build character

If u got any solutions do tell!!Is it only on the urgoth race, is it just a stupid bug, should take another race!!just give me anything!!

Morphaeus, read the post at the top, where it says says "Start with this thread". Follow the link to thread that talks about the exact same problem that you are having. Go to the second page. Read the post by embrezar which has a 10 point system for getting around the problem. Follow the steps. Play the game.

In future, always do a search in forums before posting for help, site moderators will ban users who choose to make multiple posts.

Removing the urgoth bug permanently.

I think I found a better way than hex-editing to get rid of the bug where the Urgoth doesn't want to climb the ladder - I played around with the tower's GR2 file. Now there's no small hole on top of the tower but it's wide open so the Urgoth can fit through and get ordained favor. Am I allowed to upload my modded GR2 file somewhere and post a link to it, so players can finally play the Urgoth correctly without having to hex-edit every time they want to go up that tower?

edit: added a picture where my test urgoth has just gotten ordained favor. It's difficult to see because the shade was just casting a "stream of ruin" (I call it that because the Ring of Ruin casts the same spell), but in the top left corner you can clearly see the Urgoth icon.

edit again: Fix for the Urgoth Bug - replacing the Ruins_TowerA.GR2 in the grn_model folder with this one will make it possible to climb up even if the player is an Urgoth. It also works on existing characters, even if their savegame is at a point where they are just climbing up. However, it also makes it easier for the shade to get the character, and it makes it a LOT harder to get down again after activating the altar. If you use this file, it will give a whole new meaning to the term "ordained favor", that much I promise you!

This is kinda late, but I tried the fix... there's nothing but two ladders... as soon as I stepped away from the first ladder, fell to floor because no floor up there to stand on...

Besides maybe jumping to the next ladder, I guess it would be necessary to jump to the altar also. Lots of trouble, it's much simpler and easier to hex edit the save to get to the top of the regular tower...

I'm sorry that my response is even more late, but since everyone who wants to play an urgoth in 1.5 will probably be directed to this thread I hope it's okay if I reply. Cause I'm sure there are a lot of players who would like to circumvent the urgoth bug and probably some of them will rather use my method than multiplayer (especially if there is no network with which to host a game for a second player, which definitely is the case for me! I can only play multiplayer alone). Yes, there are only the ladders because the tower is removed. What the player has to do is climb up the first ladder, stand on top of it, then do a leap of faith to the other ladder, pressing the "use" key in order to avoid falling down. If done right, the character will climb up the second ladder and hopefully stand on top of it (yesterday my Dwarf somehow took a step forward after climbing up and plummeted to his death). Then there is one more jump to do: from the top of the ladder to the top of the altar which is now floating in mid-air. Now the altar can be activated.

The way back is tricky: the player has to jump back to the ladder and climb down, but now it's (almost) impossible to jump over to the other ladder so the player will inevitably fall down. Hopefully (s)he has enough hit points and acrobatics skill to survive that fall ;) . If the player did not kill the mush men and shade, they may all be waiting at the spot where the player will land after the fall, so you better get ready for a fight.

And all of this means that now the term "ordained favor" has his real meaning: only a skilled player will get the favor! :D

Is it true that if you walk your urgoth back to fargrove to the temple that altar of peace would grant you ordained favor?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
