Postponed underdark ?

Post by Jnnprkl »

Howdy lads

For the longest time i decided to once more relive the good ol days of Bhaalspawn saga and play thru BG 1 and 2. With ascension and tactics and so forth.

Now that im nearing the start of BG 2 i was wondering that was it possible to skip underdark only to return later and still be able to do quests in there. My plan is to gather my final party quickly, and i was planning to get Imoen as fast as possible.

Meaning i would be going to spellhold and thus underdark at quite early stage of the game. Underdark is too good to completely skip but it would help if i could leave it, do some surface quests, gear up, and then return to finish it.

Been 8+ years since i played BG 2 last time so my memory is vague.

In case someone would wonder my party composition would be
Pc - Cavalier
Jaheira
Mazzy
Yoshimo > Imoen
Maybe Harry D or Valygar

In ToB il add Sarevok and see how that redemption thing works out. My 1st goody two-shoes party btw (im going to miss Edwins remarks :( ) but it will be interesting to see how Carsomyr cleaves.

Thanks in advance

You can skip Underdark by waltzing through it right to the exit (you can bluff yar way out if you're drow, or you can kill the dragon) but doing so will ruin the disguise and you will not be able to do any Ust'Natha quests.

Thanks for the answers. You just saved me hours of time.

Well no need to rush there then. Can take my sweet time questing on the surface before going to get Immy.

Sorry for necroing this but the answers given aren't 100% correct. It is possible to return to the underdark simply by backtracking from the elf camp on down. Yes, you would have to do the complete Ust Natha quest but you can leave the sidequests/Ilithid/Beholders for later.

Indeed you can return but there won't be much to in the quest department since you decided to finish the main quest there "the other way". Items and experience from monsters is still there but it makes little sense to rush in and then come back later. Saving WK for after you acquire Imoen / Big S is where it's at imo.
