Best Rogue Spc.
I am working on several new characters and one is a dwarvern rogue and what I wanted to know was what is the best rogue Specialization?
I think Duelist is the best. The sustained talent adds +10 to attack and defense with both melee and ranged weapons. Pinpoint Strikes makes all your melee attacks criticals for a decent period of time.
Assassin is a close second, but all their talents other than Mark of Death only matter for backstabbing whereas the Duelist talents apply to any combat situation.
Bard is more of a party support role. Ranger's summoning ability is cool, but at higher levels the beast won't last very long and sometimes just gets in the way.
Duellist's +1 Dex and +1 damage or Assassin's +2 Dex and +2.5% critical are much better bonuses than the Bard's or Ranger's. Combining Duelist with Assassin can be a very deadly combination, especially Mark of Death and Pinpoint Strikes. Add Dual-Wielding talents on top of that and you will be dishing out some hellacious damage.

I agree with most of that - and don't really disagree with any of it; it's just I ain't tried Ranger yet, and I only just got Assassin activated and we are heading for the finale. But my dwarf rogue really rocks, even so. She can take out pretty much anything as well as any Warrior, even toe to toe (though she is better from the back!)dcinroc wrote:I think Duelist is the best. Try them all, each has its charms. I still take bard or Ranger if I think it fits my character better.Fljotsdale wrote:I agree with most of that - and don't really disagree with any of it; it's just I ain't tried Ranger yet, and I only just got Assassin activated and we are heading for the finale. I intend to! Right now, though, I am having problems with that last fight on top of Draken. Even though I have given in and shifted to 'easy' difficulty setting, we still keep getting wiped. Even the damn ballistas, though they do a lot of damage, are against me as they keep jamming and she comes up as 'skill not high enough'. She has all 4 levels in locks, and her dex is somewhere in the 30s (I don't remember exactly without the game on-screen), so I feel annoyed about that. I wish the damn thing would sit still so I could shoot it!

Finally completed! Though my girl was the only one of the team left standing. Until the other three miraculously came back to life, that is. Than I let Alisair talk me into letting him give the coup de grace to old dragon face. Next time, I shall do it myself.
I confess that last fight scenario was on 'easy' and even so it was far from easy. I can't imagine what sort of character would survive on 'insane'! Or even ''hard' for that matter. Still, next time, I aim to do the fight on 'normal'. Should be better cos I know what to do now.
Trying to decide what my next character will be...
Oh, and she finished up as level 21. And I was wrong about her Dex - it's 50 (enhanced) However, her Cunning is only 35, so maybe that's why she had problems unjamming the ballistas?

Really? What were your dex and cunning levels? I'd be interested to know what I need to aim for!Lord++Revan wrote:I've beaten DAO 4 times and the bastilla has never jammed or said that.(Not to brag)
The bastilla is just to get the Archdemon to move to your melee range.
Personally, I found ballistas do a huge amount of damage. I wouldn't have beaten it, even on 'easy', if the ballistas hadn't cut down it's health so much first. In fact, I once had it sitting on top of one of the ballistas and was whacking away it with my blades, doing very little damage even with heavily poisoned blades. The ballistas were essential for me.

IIRC, I don't think Lockpicking has an effect on the ballistae. I think it's purely a Cunning check. If there is a skill involved, it is probably trap making.Fljotsdale wrote:I intend to! Agree that without the ballistae it's a pain to kill the Archdemon. Selecting Dalish or Mages as your allies in the final battle can help, since they have ranged attacks.
You've beaten DAO 4 times yet ask about each "best class"?Lord++Revan wrote:I've beaten DAO 4 times and the bastilla has never jammed or said that.(Not to brag)

Thank you! Next time round I'll put more into Cunning.dcinroc wrote:IIRC, I don't think Lockpicking has an effect on the ballistae. I think it's purely a Cunning check. If there is a skill involved, it is probably trap making.

I chose dwarves as my allies - after all, Tali was a dwarf herself, so I felt it's what she would do. And they were pretty good. Tough little blightes, plus having some natural resistance to magic attacks. My team all 'died', but I still had dwarves standing at the end of it, keeping the dragon occupied while Tali ran from ballista to ballista until it was softened up enough for her to attack in melee. (sometimes those ballistas came back into operation if she tinkered enough, and in fact it was only when all of 'em seized up at once, when he was pretty well on his uppers, that she went into melee).
I thought She had killed him, and wondered why she didn't die - but then Alistair woke up and put in a bid to finish it off ... next time I'm doing it!

I really enjoy the end of DAO, from the Landsmeet through the Epilogue.Fljotsdale wrote:Thank you! Next time round I'll put more into Cunning.

Congrats on finishing (or finishing again if that's the case). First time I played I replayed the final battle twice just to see how it ended (me or Alistair dead).

Well, the only char I have taken to the end so far was a girl, so Morrigan wanted me to persuade Alistair - who didn't want to play. So I didn't push it. So Morrigan turned into a wolf and didn't show again - though I think the wolf joining in the battle was her; not sure, though.Lord++Revan wrote:I've seen all endings except for loghain sacrifice and allistair sacrifice. I usually like morrigan so I 97% of the time have sex with Morrigan at the end the only time I didn't was with my elf mage who was with leliana so yah I didn't want to cheat on her so I died.

King-Consort in Dialogue, Prince-Consort in the endgame slides only, and then (unmodded) only when Anora takes the throne and Male Human Noble Origin. It's actually a bug/misprint. Similar one for Females and Queen. Alistair calls you Queen, but the endgame slides refer to you as princess-consort (even if you are chancellor as well).
And Morrigan doesn't become a wolf. She shifts into a dog if you refuse her Ritual. A similar dog stands behind Sten if you survive the Final Battle. (I've heard speculation that the second dog may actually be Morrigan, but never any confirmation...)
Personally, I dislike Loghain. Got him once for the Achievements, but never again. It might be because the first game I ever played was as Human Noble Female, and I had heard that she could become Queen.
