Hi,
I´m gonna do a playthrough with *some* tactics components but not the hardcore ones.
I left out Irenicus in Hell, the three dragons, Kangaxx, the Spellhold Party, druid grove... those didn´t sound like much fun to me, more like hard work
Ah yes Ilyich too but I beat him once. Feel no need to repeat that though.
Also I have SCS II installed.
Was it a mistake to leave out Kangaxx and the three dragons? I´m thinking about installing them, Kangaxx should be special, after all, and the dragons... well I don´t know. How hard are they, exactly?
And I can´t decide on a class for my HC. Gonna play with 5 NPCs probably.
I guess the powerhouses are Cleric/Mage, Sorcerer and Fighter/Mage but I can´t decide which I should take
I guess cleric/mage > fighter/mage with all the magic flying around. But what about the sorcerer? Is he stronger or weaker than the c/m?
Thanks
Some questions, tactics and class..
Cleric / Mage multi or dual?
Both grant significant advantages over a vanilla mage.
Cleric 7 / Mage dual gives you the ability to use shields, some cleric items, scrolls and spells like sanctuary (awesome defensive spell for caster)
Cleric / Mage multiclass allows using Level 6 and 7 cleric spells in chain contingency. Chain Contingency with self-heal, shield of archons + random spell (regeneration?) will turn the tide of battle more than once.
The advantage of sorcerer is having more arcane spells, somewhat better flexibility and... less experience is needed. When played right a Sorcerer can survive everything that you face in all the tactical mods you've listed. (ze guide)
For Cleric/Mage multiclass you need tons of experience.
Cleric / Mage multi with xp grind (or added by cheating) surely is an easier class to survive the special encounters.
You're prepared to take a beating.
But your arcane arsenal is poorer, and you need to prepare exactly the spells you want.
When monsters beat your brains in, sometimes you may discover that you picked the wrong one.
As Sorc, you never pick the wrong one!
I must say, that all three classes are great, but my personal choice was, is, and will be Sorcerer.
With the right spell picks, you are prepared for everything the modders throw at you.
Regards

Thanks for the excellent answer. I always write x/y for multi and x->y for dual class.
The contingency stuff with the c/m sounds really good, but xp grinding does not(how would you even do that in BG2?) and the only cheat I plan on using is ctrl+J.
Hmm I´ll go to the supermarket, buy me a beer or two and think about it on the way
Also I changed my mind on the 5 NPCs thing. I just *need* to have a backstabbing HC
So I plan on doing Sorcerer or C/M, Fighter -> Bounty Hunter(using Shadow Keeper:mischief and 4 NPCs.
But right now I think I´m gonna go with the Sorcerer. Gonna have high level spells available a whole lot faster and that really is a big, big plus. C/M is maybe more for smaller groups or even solo, but I do wanna have a big group.
