Spearzon build?

Post by GawainBS »

I'm considering playing a Spearzon. So no Javelin + Shield combo. I'll only play in Singleplayer (Well, with the command Players 8), and I'll probably won't go further than Nightmare.
Which skills do you recommend? Which gear? Rather, which mods on gear, as I won't have access to lots of fancy stuff.

Thanks in advance!

I felt that the skill with Charged Bolts was the only decent elemental attack for a Spearazon. Fend acts like Zeal, so if you miss once you would miss all attacks IIRC. Spears also have Strength and Dexterity requirements, but they are not too high for Normal difficulty. One thing you can do to get good spears would be to gamble for them. You may get an Amazon spear from Anya in Act 5, but it's random on what Amazon weapon you get.

Hhhmmm. Charged Bolts. To be honest, I never thought of that. Isn't the lvl 30 Lightning Skill also suitable for melee?

Not so much melee as its a throw skill

The Spear skill I was talking about is called Charged Strike. Due to synergies from other skills, you can improve the damage 10% per point in the following skills:

Power Strike: +10% Lightning Damage Per Level
Lightning Bolt: +10% Lightning Damage Per Level
Lightning Strike: +10% Lightning Damage Per Level
Lightning Fury: +10% Lightning Damage Per Level

At level 20, Charged Strike deals out 1-322 damage for each of the seven Charged Bolts it discharges.

Yes, I was focusing on that one, and Lightning Strike. Short term, I'm going to focus on those and Valkyrie. Is Jab enough for Lightning Immunes? Which Mercs would complement me best? A Concentration one?

Mercenary abilities change between Normal and Nightmare.

The Act 2 mercs give the following benefits:
Combat (Normal): Prayer
Combat (Nightmare): Thorns
Combat (Hell): Prayer
Defense (Normal): Defiance
Defense (Nightmare): Holy Freeze
Defense (Hell): Defiance
Offense (Normal): Blessed Aim
Offense (Nightmare): Might
Offense (Hell): Blessed Aim

Given the mostly lousy skills, in my opinion you're far better off with a merc from Act 3 using Cold since that will freeze enemies(unless immune) and make a Spearazon's life easier. Please also bear in mind that the Iratha Amazon set gives good resistance bonuses and could be very helpful in Normal and Nightmare.

I always liked the Holy Freeze aura because it still affects Cold Immune monsters (at least it used to, not sure about the latest patch). An Ice Sorcerer is good until Hell difficulty, then they're impotent for big chunks of the game.

Thanks for the updates. I'll go with an Ice Sorcerer then. It's highly doubtful that I'll go through Hell difficulty, though.
