This is really silly but I am really dreading finishing ToB.
I am about to finish ToB for the first time, hard to believe as long as I have had BGII (which came with ToB). I had 2 other characters saved but had stopped after complete Yaga-Shur. No reason other than wanting to try other PC characters in SoA.
But I have now run my first PC from BGI all the way through and will shortly begin the section to take on the Monks. My character is an Elven fighter mage, Tarellon. He is currently 20th Fighter/ 18th Mage. I also carried all those blasted "pantaloons" through all the games. Before finishing Abizigal, I got the last piece and the payoff. WOW!! What a hoot.
I figured it would be overkill but just could not resist trying the new "toy". For the fight with Abizigal I cast some protection spells and then Tenser's Transformation. Then put on the BMU. Oh my GOODNESS!! I had almost 400 HP and an AC of -25. I basically stood toe to toe with Abizigal and singlehandedly pounded him into goo.
Anyway now that I am getting near the end I hate to finish the game. Not because it is likely to be hard. But because this has been such a long fun journey I hate to see it end.

Know that feeling good sir!
There's some good news though, installing the Ascenion mod for another playthrough of ToB will add some nice restored and additional dialogue along with improved difficulty. You won't be completely out of BG goodness after finishing ToB once

Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Playing through the content for the first time surely is epic, but so is the next time, and the time after that. I know the game inside out, but i still find myself returning for another run, experimenting in different ways to try and renew the experience - and with great succes!
You can mod the game in all sorts of ways, personally i'm only playing with improvements and some tweaks/fixes, but there are plenty of options available that keeps the spirit of the game.

Thanks for the encouragement Bayle & AvatarofLight.
Will undertake it soon. Believe it or not I have not used any mods to "any" of the BG series yet. Emphasis on "yet".
I keep finding new things to try in SoA and want to see them un-modded.
But good recommendations.
Thanks

Woah.
I never thought I'd read these words here I envy you, actually, as I now know ToB inside-out. But yes, there are mods that can keep the game fresh. And not just difficulty-wise. For example, I'm very pleased with Sarevok romance. It seemed an odd concept at the time, but it works great. And it's really cool to lug, say, Lawful-Good Anomen all the way from SoA (hey, it's not my fault he hits on an evil priestess ) and then dump him for, y'know, the guy who murdered your father. And it does not neccessarily need to be all evil and eating babies kind of relationship, too.
I just wish Throne was not so railroaded, but hey, can't have everything.

Thanks Quen,
Took a little break from ToB. Add in some long days at work and then a trip down to Florida to see my Dad. So just getting back to it. Just took down Balthazar last night (I now remember why I never wanted to play a monk in PnP D&D). Personally, I think he was a bit cheesy.
Getting ready for the final push with Melissan, who has now shown her true colors after the fight with Balthazar (But I honestly had kind of figured some was wrong with her back in Saradush).
I'll start the battle with my PC, Tarellon as a fighter 22/ mage 19.
Minsc is a 31st level ranger
Jaheira is a fighter 22/ druid 18
Aerie (my romance) really did come into her own as a 23 cleric/ mage 19
Nalia is a 4th thief and 29th level mage
Imoen is a 7th thief and just hit 25th level mage.
I know I'm kind of heavy on the mage side but in finishing SoA I had Aerie as my romance so I couldn't leave her behind, Nalia had reached 20+ level as a mage and I hated to lose that. Since I kept Imoen in the party after Spellhold (and as she's my half-sister) I didn't want to ditch her either. Sigh, I guess I just love to be surrounded by magically strong women.

Very interesting party you have going; And who doesn't love all 'em women?Philos wrote: I'll start the battle with my PC, Tarellon as a fighter 22/ mage 19.

I find that no matter how many times I play this game, I can never get bored of it. Same goes with most of BioWare's games... (Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2, specifically.)

I find your lack of Viconia disturbing.Philos wrote:Thanks Quen,

Almost did! I "was" sorely tempted but just couldn't let go of Minsc.
I guess I am also a sucker for comic relief.
Well after stalling and finishing another group in IWD II I finally fought the final battle in ToB!!
Man was that a series of fights!!
Does anyone else think Melissan was a bit "cheesy"?
I realize with a main character and NPCs of the levels they reach in ToB it isn't easy to design a decent final fight, but ........

Spoiler
Instantaneous summoning of multiple high level creatures with no gate round after round after round, and seemingly multiple innate abilities that didn't require spell casting, etc. Not mention that while breach/pierce magic/ etc. did seem to take down protection spells, NO version of any spell that can lower magic resistence seemed to work.
