Where to identify?

Post by Claudius »

I found a place to identify armor so far, but I need to identify other items now. Any ideas?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Temples can identify any item for 100gp. The major shops can usually identify at least some items, if not all.

Your mage can identify items if they have memorized.

I have been replaying BG-TUTU and used the tweak that makes getting items identified harder - the only person so far who can identify everything for 100 gp is the Wizard in High Hedge. Identity scrolls are a rare find and it is best to keep at least one mage/bard with identify in their spellbook.

Once inside Baldur's Gate you should find more people who can identify things for you.

You don't have to identify items to use them though.
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

That is true, but Baldur's Gate has a lot of cursed items and scrolls - can be quite unforgiving to those that don't know any better!

Yes I had the gauntlets of fumbling in my inventory. I had identified with imoen, but anyhow. I was saving the gauntlet in case I could sell it for more than one gold somewhere. Then I found the guantlet of archery and put the wrong one on. Good thing for the remove curse spell. :)

To use wands, you need to identify them. You are correct about other items though.

As some cursed items, particularly in mods, can look the same as a good item, it is worth identifying before use.

There are shops at the carnival where identifying is cheaper than 100gp.
