How would you compose a small party?

Post by Sloty1984 »

At the most 4 people but would rather do it with 3.

Only one self created character, rest(perhaps modified) bioware and mod npcs.

What class would you give the main character and who would you take along?

I also want to succeed in the tactical mods out there that make many encounters more difficult.

If you haven't played an evil party before I'd definitely suggest taking Viconia, Korgan and Edwin out for a spin. Fighter/thief/mage would probably be a pretty solid choice but any thief multiclass should be fine. Alternatively if you plan to change the classes of npc's then you might just give one of the other three some thief levels to get some thief skills. A thief isn't necessary of course but personally I find their skills so convenient that I prefer always having one, and it is quite fitting to have a thief in an evil party anyway. ;)

Main Cleric/Ranger
Mage/Thief (Jan is ideal)
Fighter/Thief (Fade or Amber can be made into a fighter/thief {pocket plane for the mods] using shadow keeper)
Optional - Mage (Imoen if you pick her up)
[QUOTE=Darth Gavinius;1096098]Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.

The one I suggested is basically good aligned, I've never understood why they dubbed Jan as Chaotic Neutral, he's far from selfish enough for that, 'think only of yourself; is definitely not hos motto in my experience. Both Amber and Fade are good if I remember correctly.

Aerie is potentially the most powerful NPC in the game, although she needs nurturing in the early going. Give her a girdle of Hill Giant strength or Gauntlets of Ogre Power and she can even tank effectively.

Aerie is extremely powerful especially late in the game in a small party. I once played with the PC as a Fi/Th multi and Aerie. They breezed through and late in the game Aerie's combination of divine an arcane spells are just rediculous. Robe's of Vecna, Greater aculity, time stop then spell trigers and everything is dead pretty much no matter what it is. Also late in the game everything is evil and Holy Smite at level 20+ is bad a$$. Time Stop and 3-4 Holy Smites will usually kill everything.

If you're going just 3 characters Cl/Ra as already recommended is a very powerful build, can tank and handle all divine casting including druid spells. Then you need arcane casting and a thief. Jan can handle both and th/ma is another powerful class but having 2 mult's is really like having 4 characters experience wise so keep that in mind. Amber is more powerful than Fade because of her 6 fighter levels and the ability to stack proficiencies. Plus she is only advancing in thief levels so you going to have loads of HLA's which means spike, time and exploding traps galore.

If you're straight powergaming with three characters I'd go sorcerer for the PC, Amber and then I'd hack Minsc into a dualed Fi/Cl. (Jahiera makes a great multi fi/th as well if your ever looking for one with some personality)

Any 3 player party will be very powerful very quickly and its actually good for learning how to maximize different classes abilities IMO. I have a hard time using 6 characters actually, its tedious.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

Is it wise to go to the asylum very fast to pick up Imoen and later Solaufein?

Or would the party be too weak then and I should finish most quests before going there?

I've done it that way before. It can be hard to get through the asylum and underdark early on but its very doable. Grab the shield of balduran for the behelders lair and any other items that are important for whomever you have in the party.

How many Mages(with multiclasses) do I need?
Is one divine caster enough?

Which class do you think is the strongest thief character?

Do you prefer a good or evil aligned party?

How would you compose a full party of 6 people, but with only single class characters(duals included)?

From my experience you need only 1 mage. I always played with max 1-2 mages (and one of them was dual class), so I rarely used offensive spells, mainly I casted buff's (Haste, Improved Haste etc.).

IMHO the strongest thief combination is the one described in Strategy Guide here on GB, I'm talking about Wizard Slayer dual classed to thief at 15. Of course i couldn't use thief abilities until level 15 but after u get Use Any Item, you will have 100% Magic Resistance and can back stab with Carsomyr. So considering these things its very cheesy to play such thief.

You can complete the vanilla game with any combination of characters and classes. I prefer 2 arcane, 1 divine caster progressing in just the cleric class and one thief. That's just preference though. One of each is fine in general.

Any multi classed thief is very powerful (cl/th has thaco issues however) I absolutely love dualed Fi>Th take your pick @ level 7, 13 or 15. Again that's just preference as multi th/ma is more powerful when used correctly.

I generally go with good aligned parties because I like the NPC's and moded NPC's better but I have played through a handful of times as an evil character with evil NPC's and any party with Vici, Korgan and Edwin is formidable.

Gosh I don't know if I could actually play through with 6 single classed characters! Hmmm . . . . . I guess if I were going to do it I go Inquisitor, Sorcerer, Cleric, Thief, Mage and Berzerker. Might go with Cavalier over inquisitor for the extra divine casting since I have 2 arcane casters but dispel magic at twice the level and loads of true sight are pretty hard to part with.

Edit: Forgot to mention Blade is also a very entertaining/powerful class to play and could go in place of either arcane caster or the Berzerker in my 6 person party. Blade is a sick tank especially with ring of free action combined with defensive spin and your arcane buffs.

If I go to the asylum fast do I afterwards have enough time to do all the other quests or am I forced to go on with the main quest fast?
