D&D Online Group (I Don't Mean the MMO!)

D&D Online Group (I Don't Mean the MMO!) 4e

Hey everyone, I am actually looking for a group of people to pioneer playing D&D over nothing but a series of tubes. All the resources we need are online, player made campaigns, Wizard's dice roller, screen streaming software.... What I need is a DM with a computer decent enough to run Teamviewer 6 and that will prepare adventures in softwares such as GIMP.

Basically it would go like this:

Get the campaign you want (or make your own) open the map into GIMP from the .pdf and use it as a background. Add a few layers for enemies, chests, tables etc that the players will see as they enter rooms. Such as a situation from 3.5s tutorial box. The players enter the large room with a door on the other side of the hallway, a barrel in the corner, and an ogre in the center of the room. Basically the dm would have the doors on a layer, barrels and chests on a layer and the ogre on a layer, and as the players see or search the room they show up (show or hide layers options).

All the icons would be seperate objects, too. Makign it easy for the dm the move them around.

Now to play the devil's advocate:

Q: How will the players move their characters?

A: Well, either the dm can give players control of the mouse, or set up a grid system similar to battleship.

Q: What's to stop a player from cheating on his rolls?

A: Nothing, I suppose, that is the only issue, but if your a real D&D player, would you really be a **** and cheat?

Teamviewer or Livestream can be used to stream the board, Livestream would probably be the better idea since you can select a specific area of the desktop to show, so the players don't see the names of the layers (if you name them like a smart person :D ).

If anyone wants to play I currently need 3 players and a DM to join me... either send me a message or post in this thread and we can get it set up.

there are many other ways to play dnd over the internet like RPTools - Downloads
is a site that allows players to move and chat along with the ability to make dice rolls in the chat. the dm also has lots of power over players and actions. i have not gotten a chance to use it yet but would love if a dm was willing.

I always wanted someone to create Role-Play chat bot.

What is that you say?

Well, in my excessive time playing Diablo II, I have ran into a lot of cool chat bots. Ones that monitor "runs", ones that monitor duel games and record stats like deaths and deaths by whom, ones that organize that channel to organize a clan/guild and memberships [Non-clan members get auto-kicked and members get a ranking system], and most often, trivia bots.

That being said, I've seen chat bots do enough things to know that it's possible for someone to create a campaign and role play bot. It could randomly generate damage, treasure, experience, etc. The players play by commands.

For instance, the chat bot could say

DM Bot: You stand on a precipice, something flies in the distance
DM Bot: *I will now give players a moment to submit commands*

Player A: /Atk @Target 1 w/ Bow

DM Bot: Player A has submitted an attack command [.Attack @target # /w weapon/spell]. Player A's attack misses Target 1.

DM Bot: Upon being attacked, the flying creature, an Imp, descends upon you and attacks.

DM Bot: The creature attacks Player A and deals 12 damage to him/her.
Player A now only has 123 HP remaining.

DM Bot: Remember that at any time, you can type .stats to see your stats, .skills to see your skill list, .Gear to manage your equipment, and .Item to browse your items and or use them.
______

That's just a small example of what I am sure chat bots are capable of, because I've seen them do similar things.

Then again, this is above and beyond what I've ever seen any one bot do. So it's probably too hard and time consuming to program.

Edit: It seems one guy is attempting something a lot like it.

I am currently messing around with maptools from rptools to see if i can make a campaign out of it and do everything using 1 maybe 2 programs, if anyone wants to help test this out with me feel free to use my email above or post here. i need to test out the capabilities of rptools and teamviewer so we can see what/how we need to do things in order to make this a fun experience for everyone. Thanks!

I'd like to play DnD. Unfortunately my experience is that players and DMs disappear in the middle of the game. So I would hope to join a group who has stable time to give to the game.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Like I posted in the other thread, I'm pretty new to everything but am eager to learn and play so sign me up if you guys get a group together. I'm also pretty patient so if it takes a bit to get all the kinks worked out I'm fine with it.
