What are you looking forward to in Skyrim?
Hello all.
As you know, Skyrim is now just a month away from release. I am sure all of you are just as excited as I am for this game. My question is: What are you most looking forward to in Skyrim?
This is probably a difficult question to answer, as there are dozens of things to look forward to. As for me though, I really like the fact that I do not have to pick any major skills this game; that all skills contribute to the leveling of your character. It will be nice to be able to level your skills from the beginning and not have them start at level 25, or even level 35. Not having to choose skills at the start of the game allows you to play around with the skills until you find a class that suits you. Removal of the major skills system also removes having to use a skill that you picked as a major skill because it is much higher than the others.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

First and foremost a non Steam version, because if there isn't one I won't be buying it; I won't buy it until it ends up on the discount shelves anyway after the disappointment with Oblivion.
Unfortunately much of what I'd like we already know won't be there, like more diverse weapon skills for exmple and a more diverse choice of weapons.

The feeling I get, when I immerse myself in a new game world, where it seems everything is bigger and more confusing(not sure that's the right word after Oblivion in which there is nothing confusing) than it really is.
Also getting my hands on a daedric artifact (preferably Goldbrand) and shoving it into the belly of a dragon! I must admit that I'm quite psyched about the whole dragon slaying, even though there are so many other aspects of the game that would normally appeal more to me (Bethesda's pr must be working on me - dammit!!! .
I'm also looking forward to happily playing the game, then pausing to amuse myself by thinking of the bitching and whining on GB of those people who've already now decided that Skyrim is a dumbed down RPG, when everything turned out alright in the end Yes, I have decided to be very optimistic about the game - probably more than it deserves, but I've noticed that my previous sceptic attitude towards new RPGs have just ruined the games for me before I even got to play them.
Also my eternal search for the blunted axe...

Ah, but the beauty of being a pessemist is that you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Oh yes, I'm very excited. Almost as excited as when I get to clean the toilet.Demonic VII wrote: As you know, Skyrim is now just a month away from release. I am sure all of you are just as excited as I am for this game.
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.
Right now? Not much. I'm kinda curious to find out what they did to Sheogorath. Oblivion was the first to casually mention the player in a previous game, now Skyrim will be the first to actually feature one. It's going to be a big surprise, I'm sure.
For the doubters, it was already mentioned Azura was back so it stands to reason the other Daedra will be there too.

strangely i feel optimistic about Skyrim too.
I played a little Morrowind and Oblivion but either of them didnt manage to amuse me, so i quit relativly fast.
ES:V somehow managed to caught my attetion, i already pre ordered and im looking forward to the free world exploreing.
I guess its the norse setting that intrigues me, well we will see after gamescom im quite hyped, the only thing im a little unsure about is how clunky the fightsystem will be.
anyway lets go boys, lets slay some dragons

Just been playing Oblivion again and have been forcibly reminded of an essential wish for anyone foolish enough to rush out and buy the game as soon as it's released. You'd better wish that the absolutely necessary patch comes out very quickly!!
Apologies if I've offended anyone, but given that everything Bethesda (that really should be Bugesda) has ever released has been severely bugged, usually fatally, it would be foolish indeed to buy the game before at least one official and, if your sensible, at least one unofficial patch, has been released.

Fair enough (you've certainly not offended me in any way), we all have our different perspective on the different games we've played and that shapes our expectations for their successors.
I know there's been a lot of talk about the buggy nature of Bethesda's releases (not to mention Obsidians), but the only thing I've experienced is screen-freezing, which is annoying, but due to the well used auto-save "system", I usually don't lose more than 10 min. (and I can live with that). Bugs are inevitable in games, but the quantity reported for certain games are quite horrendous.
I just like that kind of game and all that I've read so far seems to imply that it'll live up to my expectations. That might not be "sensible" from your perspective (that's fair and maybe even true), but I just truly enjoy the elder scrolls series and want to play Skyrim as fast as possible

I hope my pessimism is unjustified and you and the other early buyers get great enjoyment out of the game TAKR86. There is a downside from holding back and that is it's almost impossible to avoid spoilers no matter how hard one tries.
Unfortunately I'm on a limited income, so I have to budget accordingly, better from my perspective to spend the money on proven product than gambling on untried ones.

Agreed. If only because I don't have a computer for it anyway.
I am going to keep an eye on the modding community. I've already spotted a number of features that desperately need to be modded. I'm going to use every bit of pull I have in the community to get that done. And whatever is left, I'll make myself once I get the game.

One thing I will be looking out for is the levelling system; I hope they've listened to their customers and abandoned the diabolical system they used in Oblivion.
Actually this is a simplified litmus test, because if they have used the same system it's proof negative that they have nothing but contempt for their customers.
PS It has to be proof negative, 'cos there would be nothing positive about it!

From what I understand the leveling system is different. You get an increase in health every time you level up and then you can allocate some extra points to either mana, stamina or health (and I don't know this, but I believe it's a fixed amount of points - does anybody know?), but otherwise it's still leveling up by using your skills.
I was referring to the levelling of 'monsters' and treasure, which was awful in Oblivion with everything being tied to your level, which meant you could finish the game without ever having to level up. Conversely the commonest bandit was walking around with a king's ransome by the time you got to level 20+, totally ludicrous.

Well I guess that kind of depends on what you mean by fixing it. It's not going to be the same as in oblivion (that can almost only be a positive thing). If we are to believe Bethesda it's going to be more like Fallout 3 (I can't really remember how it worked there).
However, it wasn't that long ago that I saw a video in which Todd Howard (or maybe some other guy from Bethesda) said that as the game progress new and stronger enemies will appear, but the older and weaker enemies will still be there. I think that sounds a little like Morrowind, but not entirely. I personally hope that we can encounter enemies far stronger than us fx when we're at level 2 running around in some tomb in the middle of nowhere.

Leveling
It was reported that some creatures will be unable to be beat in early stages of a game similar to fallout 3 when u wnadered into washington dc and got ur ass kicked by them crazy creatures with the big machine guns. I think it will limit the exploration in the begining but i like to spend time exploring from where i start, suxs i found Umbra so quick in Oblivion, but would love incentive to push my levels such as a sword that is only available after level X or something like that.
