Which characters are you gonna be playing

Post by Nastypoet »

With 1 week left i've been wondering what character im going to play. Ive only played oblivion and i was a dark elf and loved every second of it. I'm debating if i wanna be a lizzard man though because that would be a cool "dragon" born

Is there actually a choice? After all if the main character is supposed to be the dragon born he or she would have to be a Nord or the story falls apart right there and then.

I'm going to be a Breton Mage, that was my race and ''class'' in Morrowind and Oblivion, Skyrim will be no different.

Well, my nerevarine wasn't a dark elf, but an Imperial. Reincarnation is weird stuff in the elder scrolls setting, apparently.
Also, great figures inevitably reincarnate in lowly, exiled prisoners. What's the deal with reincarnation, that no matter how glorious, merciful and cunning an individual is, he always resorts to petty crime and other offenses after reincarnation? The metaphysical implications!

No weirder than in AD&D I guess. I once had a mighty Human Illusionist reincarnated as an Ogre with, thanks to divine intervention (thanks be to Freyr) his mind intact. A 27th level Ogre Illusion is a lot more scary prospect than a 1st level Argonian thief I guess!

I'm going to play a Dunmer swordsmaster, who'll also be throwing some mean destruction magic. I might also play a nord warrior to have the whole native flavour - I guess it'll also technically make more sense to be a Nord, but on the other hand what I've read on the lore of the dragonborn and the power of the voice doesn't indicate that only Nords can be dragonborn or use the Voice (although the Voice does seem traditionally to be a Nordic practice).

I went with a Khajit thief/ranger first and then a Wood Elf thief/ranger. The Khajit was a sword/board since that's what I had and the WE I rolled to try dual wielding after reading a bit about it.

I've tried a few. In the last couple of games my main character was a Bosmer scout style character. She focused on things like stealth, lockpicks, and archery. It didn't feel quite right by the time I reached level ten to have this character running around shouting at dragons and such. She just felt out of place.

I next tried an Imperial Mage and a Nord wielding a two handed weapon and heavy armour. Both fit the setting much better.

The following I would label this as spoilerish, but it only spoils events since the last game (and only lightly) but before this game so shouldn't spoil any events in the game itself so if that is a problem stop reading now.

I rerolled the first character after reading some background on events since the Oblivion Crisis both in game and out. Now I have given an actual reason for crossing the border into Skyrim instead of just me starting blindly. She was sent into Skyrim by a faction of the Aldmeri Dominion to help incite rebellion. Her employers want Skyrim to remove themselves from being part of the Empire as has been done with other regions since Oblivion. She isn't going to be evil, but she does have a job to do of trying to help encourage the Nords that they don't need the Empire. So far I am enjoying her quite a bit more just by knowing where some of her motivation for making certain choices comes from.

You can't import characters from Oblivion as far as I know. What I did was attempt to create a character similar to my primary character in Oblivion.

I always tend towards Rogue/Mage types (DA annoys me cos I can't lockpick if mage) so I'm doing the same now. Breton female. ;) so I get the magica and Bretons are perfectly adequate Rogues if you train 'em right.
So, she's female, she's Breton - and she's the Dragonborn! What will those Nords say?

My skills at the moment are : 100 Sneak, 70 archery, 65 one handed, 29(or less) light armor.. Gives you an idea about my character. I can sneak attack people to the face. Somewhat balance-breaking.
If not for dragons i would backstab the entire game.

Then again, some people tend to one-shot me. So i guess it's fine.

I'm playing as an imperial, where I'm playing as a imperial warrior as a knight, where I'm going to make him into a noble imperial paladin, who specialize the magic of Restoration, Alteration, and Destruction, which I'll make him into a "crusader". And I'll be using a soul trap for what I've got is a "Soul Trap" in order to save golds and give my sword some more magic enhancement.
