Graphic glitches
Graphic glitches
Hi everyone,
In my game of POR, characters seem to often be transparent as does any item that can be used or smashed. Just after loading up, some of the items on the screen are partly visible but after moving the characters things become transparent until bringing up the character sheet and closing it again. This seems to reset the graphics for a while. Only the permanent walls of the dungeon seem to be unaffected.
Another really weird problem I seem to have is that enemies can run in one direction, but after their go they continue in that direction but appear to be sliding rather than running . This can take them out of the area where I can attack them but they can still cast spells on me (which is really annoying ).
I am using Windows XP Professional, Nvidia Geforce FX5700, Sempron 2800+ (2Ghz) Processor.
Has anyone else had these kind of problems and/or knows any solutions.
P.S. I am just glad that I do not have some of the other problems that others have mentioned. Fortunately these problems I have mentioned are relatively new.
Thanks in advance.

This is definately the graphics card. I installed an Nvidia Geforce card and had exactly the same problem; the game was just unplayable. My card is currently having problems and isn't installed now, so the game runs with no problems. One of the previous posts said your drivers are too new, which might be the case, but if you're only playing POR at the moment i'd suggest taking the card out. there's probably a better way around the problem though.

Thanks to leth, a forum member in rpgwatch.com, I can finally solve the graphical glitches in Por2. He said he had applied this solution to Planescape Torment to solve some graphical issues and it perfectly fits this problem also. As you knew in order to solve the graphical glitches in newer systems you must turn off directdraw accelaration from dxdiag menu. You can do that easily on XP, but Vista do not allow that and also new drivers don't want you to mess up with the settings. So here is the solution:
1) Download and install the microsoft application compatiblity toolkit. You can easily find that in Microsoft's site in download section. I think the last version of it is 5,5.
2) Start the 'Compatibility Administrator' with administrator rights. If your UAC is off, no need to adm. rights by the way.
3) Click the 'New' Button
4) Right click the new database. Select 'Create new application fix…'
5) Name your program and vendor however you like. Browse to your por2main.exe file.
6) Select 'None' for operating system modes. Click Next. Tick the 'ForceDirectDrawEmulation' compatibility fix. (No need to select additional compatibility modes)
7) Click next and finish.
8) Save your database.
9) Right click the database and select install. This will install the database.
10) Close the compatibility administrator and start POR2. That's it. Play & Enjoy. No more graphical glitches. Just a bit slow though, but it is more tolerable than weird 3d graphics.
To do that once is enough to solve the issue. No need to do that everytime you want to play POR2.

Heya everyone.
Just joined while looking for a fix to my problem (seems to be almost the same one everyone else has had..), and I know I'm waaayyy late from when this was talked about, but mine's not fixed. I tried the entire process of the Application Compatability stuff, and I'm sure I did it all correctly.
Now, to the problem. When I load the game, everything is fine. I make my party, add everyone, and begin playing. As soon as I get in (Like a lot of other people, I'm sure), the characters and enemies are see-through. The gold on the ground, though, isn't (Don't know if that happened for others or not). Also, trying to disable the dirext x graphic acceleration through the run menu doesn't work.. (No box comes up saying "Disable") If there's a way to fix that, I would try it.
My friend's dad (Who DMs our weekly D&D ) suggested this game to me, and I'd played it a year ago, but had to change computers, and wanted to start fresh, so.. Without me rambling on anymore (sorry XD), does anybody know what else I can do to fix it?
If you need my graphics card or whatnot, let me know, and I'd be happy to post it.

Easy graphics fix
The compability fix (emulate directdraw) does only work on v. 1.0 of the game, not any patched version.
The propper solution is simple, turn off all kind of antialiasing on your machine. If you have a Nvidia card, you will find this under 3d settings in the control panel.
Works for all versions
