Storage. Is anywhere safe? (Possible Spoilers)

Post by Mz_Trixter »

Hello all.

Throughout my time playing, I was favoring the free housing provided by the Companions. After completing the questline
(as with many others) you gain ownership of the place. Well I was storing most of my valuables and loot in the Jorvaskr leader's room (the chest atop of the bookshelf). However earlier today, after so long, I checked back to drop off more dragon bones/scales, ect. only to find the rest of what I had stored there poofed. :(

EDIT: I've just read somewhere, leader quarters aquired from quests reset after roughly a month (game time). /meh ..figures.

I ended up having to reload from an earlier save and go back to loot everything I had stored there so I wouldn't lose all I saved. But I still can't even afford the cheapest home (approx 5k septims). Is there anywhere safe enough to use aside from resorting to using random barrels for storage? Keep in mind I'm 2k septims short from buying a house.

Any tips are appreciated, thanks.

Also I read from - here - a thief can break into your home and steal your belongings?? Has this happened to anyone yet?
''White light beams through darkness, beset by immense haze over a few seconds followed by a loud cacophony. Motionless, the repercussion of your action strikes your feebled mind and senses. Still dazed, the intensity lingers that follows after tripping over your own sonic blind trap.''

There only safe way to store items is to place them in a container which is designated as owned by you. Usually this means in your house, although the manual implies that there are other ways.

Out of curiosity, if you are head of the Champions and have been away from home for over a month, what are you doing with your time that you don't have 5k gold? If you're picky about what you pick up, and don't try to keep everything, you should be able to make that much after clearing out one or two dungeons, even at a low level.

If you're looking for free housing with non-respawnable storage, there are three that I know of:

1. Alchemist's Shack in the Rift - almost directly south of Ivarstead and a little north-west (mostly just west) of the Rift Imperial Camp and south-east of Haemar's Shame. It contains a bed, an endtable (in which you can safely store whatever item you want - it doesn't respawn new items) and outside in the garden there's a an alchemy table.

2. Meeko's Shack in Haafingar hold - it's located directly south of the East Empire Trading Company and west of the Apprentice Stone and east of Dragon Bridge. It has a barrel and an endtable which you can use for safe storage. Also you can get Meeko the dog as a secondary companion.

3. Riverside Shack - It's located east of Gallows Rock and south of Windhelm along the the shore of the White River. The Wardrobe is a safe container.

The abandoned house is safe if you do the House of Horror quest in Markarth.

I just use the barrels in front of the smithy (Warmaiden's) in Whiterun. Nice and easy access to multiple shops. If i return overburdend from a dungeon, I hop on my horse, hit fast travel and reappear 10 meters from said barrel . Never had anything stolen.

I went and did an experiment for you...
I left a bunch of items right outside the Thalmor Embassy, the college, and Riverwood.
I clocked about 41 hours of gameplay since your post and went back and checked each of those spots and everything was still right where I had left it.
so safe storage is anywhere you can remember leaving things lol
your welcome :p
