Post by Nastypoet »

Im still early in the game because my elf is searching for treasure to make him rich but im am looking for dragons and found only 4 in skyrim. I only completed the main story with climbng the throat of the world f###ing unbelievable. But if i progress more will more dragons appear being that im a dragon hunter going village to village to slay the vile beast that is causing havoc on my fellow country men plus it helps with my archery skill haha. should i progress more in the story or am i looking ni bad locations. Ive been searching the south west mountain near riften somewhat but mostly have been hanging around whiterun?

After killing your first dragon in the main questline dragons should randomly appear (so you should start to encounter them), but I don't know if the frequency of dragon attacks will increase the more you progress.

Also there's quite a few dragon lairs/nests (whatever they're called) around Skyrim where an encounter is guaranteed (unless you've already been there and killed the dragon - then you have to wait some time and a new one might appear). Here's a list copied from UESP (under dragon lairs):

Ancient's Ascent — A Word Wall within the mountains southwest of Helgen.

Autumnwatch Tower — A pair of abandoned towers located south-southeast of Ivarstead. The western tower is guarded by a dragon, and a Marked for Death Word of Power can be found at the Word Wall at its top. There are also a spell book and a couple of skill books located in the tower away from the word wall (needs specification)

Bonestrewn Crest — A rocky peak/hill, slightly southeast of Cronvangr Cave, and directly south, albeit elevated, of Witchmist Grove, as well as directly south of Kynesgrove.

Dragontooth Crater — An outdoor word wall north of Karthwasten

Eldersblood Peak — A Word Wall directly south of Morthal.

Lost Tongue Overlook — A ledge on a mountain south of Riften, which contains a word wall for the shout Dismay.

Mount Anthor — A mountain southwest of Winterhold and west of the Shrine of Azura.

Northwind Summit — A mountain on the border between Eastmarch and The Rift, Northwest of Riften, and far South of Windhelm. It is the highest point in The Rift.

Shearpoint — A Word Wall located on a small peak to the north of High Hrothgar close to Fellglow Keep and Irkngthand.

Skyborn Altar — A word wall East from Morthal (and slightly south),
Southwest of Dawnstar on top of a mountain. The best way to get to
Skyborn Alter is to travel Northwest of Loreius Farm. Skyborn Alter is also almost directly Northeast of Lost Valkygg. You should discover Volunrudd along this way, which is also the site for another part of the "Aura Wisper" shout.

From personal experience I recommend using fast travel between towns to trigger dragons more frequently. Mind you, I have only witnessed a dragon actually inside a town once, otherwise it's always outside the town. Around half of the times I fast travel to the town's gates I get attacked by the dragon only half a minute after I arrive. Of course this has the problem of advancing the game time quickly but so far I haven't seen any disadvantages in it.
