Multi/Dual Class Characters Saves

Post by Rebel7284 »

Hi,

Does anyone know how the saves are calculated for multiclass and dual class characters in BG2/TOB?

I have read elsewhere that for THAC0, it uses the higher _progression_ in Multiclass and the higher of the THAC0s of your two classes in Dual class (after reaching the level you dual classed at +1 of course.)

But I could not locate any such information for saves. I would assume a similar system is used, but I don't like to assume. Also, since different saves progress at different rates for different classes, I wonder how that affects it.

Also, how do the racial bonuses of Gnomes/Dwarfs factor into this?

Thanks in advance.

Just create some characters and look at their saving throws, should only take a few minutes to check what we think is obvious.

You can post the results here afterwards.

In your first post you should replace higher with better.

Ok, looked at some numbers in the game.

For multiclass characters, it uses the best save from each class for each individual save. Gnome bonus only applies to save vs. wand and save vs. spell.

For dual class characters, Anomen has all cleric saves, but those are all higher or equal to what his fighter saves would be, so I am not sure. Don't have access to any other dual class characters right now (well I can grab Nalia, but she is only level 4 thief) I ASSUME it also takes the higher one of the two classes, and due to the way multiclass does it, I assume it calculates separately for each save.

If anyone knows differently, please correct me. Base saves taken from this table: http://playithardcore.com/pihwiki/index ... ion_Charts

sorry that i didnt answer sooner i just missed your thread.

AD&D 2nd rules give you always the best saving throw avaliable

that means, you can get a bonus for high con dex wis or int, depending on what the save is against, poison, fireball, illusion etc. but i think this is not implemented in BG, someone correct me if im wrong

it naturally depends on the saving throw of your class/level
there always the best counts, you already get a malus from not beeing such an high level char anyway since you split your xp.

the only exception is when you dual class and your 2nd class did not surpass your first again since it is "inactiv" so there could be a big difference between a
level 7/6 Fighter/Mage and 7/8 Fighter/Mage

hope this was clear im a little dizzy from my meds, damn cold!

I've heard that in unmodded BG2 the saving throw improvements after level 20 aren't applied, so mages, socerers, bards and thieves are stuck with their level 17 saves until level 40.
If the .2da files are in your override folder you can read (and even edit) the saving throws there with a text editor.
