Awesome mods

Post by jparm3rd »

Wow, I haven't touched Oblivion since it first came out and the sheer number and quality of mods is just amazing!

My favorite mod is kind of a tie between The Lost Spires and Vilja.

These two are so good that they should be sold. I would easily pay for both of them and they are far far better than some of the trash DLC that's out on the market these days from major development firms.

Goes to show you what a little love can yield.

How about you? Got any favorite Oblivion mods?

So give a shout out here. If any mod makers are around, they'd probably love the appreciation. Not to mention sharing the word with other fans.

Heart of the dead, at least as good as The Lost Spires.

Right now I have full FCOM with A to Take All and OblivionXP along with a variety of other things sprinkled in. I have another copy that is Nehrim with A to Take All. It's such a little thing, but A to Take All may be the one mod I don't want to do without. Harvest and a bunch of similar mods are included within FCOM. OblivionXP is nice in that I don't feel a need to game the system and it helps slow down the master of all skills syndrome the default leveling system promotes, but breaks the spirit of only building the skills you use unless you only raise those skills yourself. It basically makes the leveling system the same as the newer Fallout games. The other downside is that you don't get experience for completing quests in player made content unless the content creator added a couple lines of code to the content or not. This isn't a huge deal unless playing large player created content like Nehrim or Morroblivion, but neither of those have an XP system in mind to start with so may be broken should it happen to work with those.

Nehrim is a really good complete conversion with professional level voice acting (I don't know if they hired professionals, but all the voice acting was recorded in a professional studio), but is only English in subtitles. If you don't mind subtitles, or speak German, then I can't recommend it enough. The downside is it requires it's own install. If you are using the Steam version of Oblivion then you either need a program that shuffles various installs around (which is quite handy in this instance) or manually move your own games around to where the one you want to play is in the directory where Steam installs the game.

I really do need to reinstall Lost Spires. I haven't played it in years, but from what I remember it was very well done.

Does anybody know of any mods to help make the Oblivion Gates more interesting? Right now I do one, maybe two while listening to audio books/dramas then go do something else and come back when I want to listen to an audio book some more. There is some variety in enemies thanks to FCOM, but it would be great if there were a mod that offered more landscapes or anything similar. I think I would go mad trying to close them all if it weren't for BBC 4 extra streaming online or Big Finish.

Have to agree with Lost Spires and Heart of the Dead. I also liked Windfall which gives you an entire island full of quests and dungeons etc along with a good main story to play.

Tears of the Fiend is a great Role Play Mod with meaningful choices and consequences and many outcomes both good and bad - and requires a lot of replay.

Red Headed Gang mod is quite fun, especially with its additional underworld questline.
