Tirdir captors problem

Post by kye »

I'm playing the quest where Tirdir is buried alive and I'm off to find his captors. I found the man in red, followed him into the house nearby, went upstairs and freed the woman, then left, BUT - the culprits wouldn't fight me, they just...left. I thought this was normal so I let them go, as the ransom note mentioned going to the Slums after dark...but they're not there. From reading walkthroughs I've gathered that you are supposed to fight them when I accidentally let them go.

So...is this a bug? I tried to fight them, but I couldn't. My journal says the quest is complete. Telling me to load a previous game is no use, I'm afraid, they're too far back. Any ideas how I get them boots that are promised from the little guy? Or is it a lost cause?

They've always run from me as well IIRC, but I shoot them down before they can get anywhere.

The problem is probably that you freed the woman. If you want the ransom, you must tell her that you do not intend to release her when you find her. If you go to the slums at night afterwards, you will find a nobleman in front of the Copper Coronet who will give you the ransom if you have the note. The two guys you find on the first floor of the house are not important AFAIK.

If by "boots" you mean those that give a bonus to AC for ranged weapons, (Boots of Dodging? Or something like that? I can't remember) they are not the ransom you get.

Those boots are taken off the corpse of one of the kidnapers, and to get them you need to go into the house, see the cutscene, then follow them back out onto the street and manually force the party to attack them, since they count as neutral all the time. Fortunately this does not make the entire city hostile, but you must be quick about it as even when attacked they will try to flee rather than fight. I usually have the party wait outside and only enter the house with one character, as it's one of those areas that let you do that. They try to escape, and whoops... :D

The ransom for the noblewoman is a pair of pantaloons, silver I think. I always wish for an option to smack her arrogant butt and let the ransom hang.
