So I want to make Thor…

Post by mrdeluxe »

…what do you think is the best way to go about it? :)

Should I make a straight cleric? A multiclass fighter/cleric? A berserker dual to cleric (makes some sense to keep it in the "nordic" theme) or a ranger dual to cleric so I get call lighting?

I'll go single weapon style, with proficiencies with the hammer, obviously. Might use a shield if needed. Too bad I won't be able to use the Dwarven Thrower, it would be perfect!

Thor the Mighty

A Berserker dualled into a druid would be great, don't know if you could still wield hammers though...

Otherwise Berserker/Cleric seems fitting to me ;) Loooove Thor :D

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Berserker > Cleric and replace the Call Lightning with Bolt of Glory :D Seems to fit.

Almost want to make the whole Avengers, now. Captain America is obviously a paladin, the Hulk an half-ogre barbarian, we have a perfect Hawkeye with the Archer, black widow a thief/assassin. Iron-Man is trickier…

This idea is golden. I'd make Bruce Banner the PC just to have him hulk out on Irenicus. Iron Man obviously needs the Big Metal Unit, but until then just make sure he's covered in metal.

Heavily agree with berserker/cleric. That's exactly what Thor is from a BG2 gameplay perspective IMO. He has, in fact, gone berserk in the comics before IIRC. Put Crom Feyr on him and give him the girdle of frost giant strength + a good suit of mail and you HAVE Thor in BG2 form. This is brilliant.

If you can't find a good way to fit Iron Man on here, Vision might pass as a mage, or Black Panther as a monk. Lots of heroes have been in the Avengers.

I love making teams with themes like this. My favorite was a sorceror duo named Beavis and Butthead. I would do it again if I knew how to give characters custom voices.

Good luck with this.

I gotta say, although I usually don't like custom-made parties (the NPC interaction is half the fun), this is a neat idea!

For Iron Man, instead of going fighter with full plate, I could go the other way: Tony Stark is an inventor, a brilliant man that, thanks to his intellect, was able to become very powerful. He is also extremely charismatic. With that in mind, I think he would be perfect as a wizard, perhaps Transmuter. He can cast his repulser rays (magic missiles), and he could (eventually) shapechange into an Iron Golem. :D

And keeping on the subject of Thor, what about the Warriors Three? (we're entering deep nerd territory, now :) )

Fandral can be a swashbuckler or maybe a blade. Just has to be really good with a sword and with very high charisma.

Hogun could be a kensai with grand-mastery with maces.

Volstagg, however, I have no idea. He looks like a giant dwarf, if that makes any sense!

This is getting into areas beyond my very generalist a-little-bit-of-everything level of comic knowledge, but I've been trying to catch up a bit because this is cool. I always thought making teams was funner than playing the game.

I would be torn about Fandral. On the one hand, he has to be charismatic. He's even called the Dashing. He's handsome and more athletic than even the average Asgardian. This aspect screams swashbuckler, and the wiki even describes him as one. On the other hand, he's evidently the best swordsman in Asgard, and it would be painful to give him less than grandmastery in longswords IMO. He also seems distinctly un-thiefly in attitude and behavior. Maybe a swashbuckler dualed to fighter, to get the best of both worlds.

Hogun seems to be an all-around warrior type with a specialization in blunt weapons. It'd be easier to replicate that in Icewind Dale 2, where fighters automatically start proficient in all weapons and can become more skilled with certain ones as they go along. In BG, this aspect of him will probably have to remain unrealized; I would probably just give him mastery in mace or morning star.

Volstagg IMO works best as a dwarf. It wouldn't be quite right, but neither would half-orc or human as far as his appearance goes. Dwarves are the only race with noticeably rotund character models, unfortunately. By all appearances, the only overweight guys on the Sword Coast are merchants, innkeepers, and the occasional peasant, and Amn is little more diverse. The lowered dexterity score reflects his lessened agility due to age and obesity, while the higher con is fitting for his bulk. He could go fighter/cleric just to add some spellcasting to the party, or you could actually try to play with just three fighter types. It would be an interesting exercise, and probably very doable without any of the difficulty mods e.g. SCSII which tend to make the already-enormous power of arcane casters more pronounced.

I don't know enough about these guys to think of anything else.
