Lord of the Rings - War in the North

Post by GawainBS »

I'm considering getting this, but the Gamebanshee review mentioned that the character's stats & inventories "reset" after switching between them. Is this only for multiplayer? If this is the case in singelplayer too, I won't be touching this game. I have absolutely no desire to try multiplayer.

Thanks in advance!

In singleplayer, your ability/equipment choices are retained by your character. If, for example, you were playing the ranger, then switched to the dwarf, the ranger would then appear with gear chosen by the game AI. When you switch back to the ranger, he has the same equipment and abilities you left him with. You can level-up and improve equipment with all three characters as the game progresses. When you are not actively controlling the character it returns to game default until you retake control of that character which reloads your choices.

However, only buy a used copy of this game. I forked out full price on day of release only to find it... limited. It's more button-masher than RPG. The game is quite short, but you replay through four difficulty levels. It's a bit of a con in my book, since "heroic" difficulty just gives you extreme controller-rage during the tough boss fights near the end of the game. Wave combat just gets stupid - there's no way to kill all the enemies that swamp you before you run out of health potions. I gave up playing it at that point. If you buy it cheap though, it may provide some fun at easy or normal difficulty.

Thanks. I saw it on Steam for 20€. Do you consider that a fair price?

No, I'd wait until the price drops. When you have played through it once, that's about all you're going to get from it. There really isn't enough replay value to justify spending more than 10 Euro.
