Party does not get fatigued?

Post by NocturneN »

Hello everyone, not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I have been looking for a forum discussing BG2 for awhile, and it looks like I'm in the right place. :) I apologize if I have done something wrong, as I'm new to these forums. Right then, I can't seem to find a definate answer to this question, so here goes:

My party seem to never, or atleast very rarely, get fatigued. If I remember correctly I am supposed to be able to adventure for ~24 hours before people start to complain, atleast that's the way I remembered it was the last time I played BG2. But just now I've been going for well over 24 hours AND have even cast a Haste spell, with no complaints whatsoever. Not even from Airie, the weakest party member in terms of CON. This seems abit odd to say the least, I worry abit if there's something wrong with my game and that my party may be fatigued but nothing is displayed...which would be disatrous. All in all, throughout this session (I am some 17days into the game) I have not been forced to stop ONCE to rest because of fatigue, only when my spells run out. I've even tried having Airie cast "Lesser Restoration", which is supposed to fatigue you immediatly, but nothing happens. I find the whole thing abit odd and detrimental to the immersion - seems I have a party of superpeople that never needs to rest! :)

If anyone could shed some light on this mystery I'd be most obliged. I'm playing BG2: SoA (No ToB) ver 23037.

Aye, 'Tis. I'm not using any mods whatsoever, and the game is patched to latest version, 23037 - atleast I THINK that is the latest version for SoA; I haven't found anything more recent. I do not wish to begin playing ToB, yet.

I've been testing abit, travelling back and forth between different areas to see how long they can keep going; I get no fatigue until it's been atleast 60-80 hours. Then Jan, Cernd and Airie got fatigued (low CON), but my main char (18 CON), Minsc and Jaheira are still going strong. It seems impossible for my stronger characters to become tired; maybe if I casted 3x Haste in a row...hmmm...should test that.

Right now I've been goofing around in Trademeet for a whole day 8am to 20pm currently; 12 hours ingame. Add to that, I have not rested since last time I travelled, so my party has been up for some 30 hours straight, and noone is tired. Airie has used a "Lesser Restoration" spell aswell, still no fatigue.

A minor problem, perhaps, but it disturbs my sense of immersion. I have been searching, and searching, and searching, and searching...but can't find anything about this, or someone else with this problem.

I have installed ToB and the latest ToB patch in hopes of that fixing the problem, but the fix has only been partial, so far. On one hand, my party will now correctly get fatigued faster after I have used "Haste". My clerics also suffer fatigue after using "Lesser Restoration", so that is now working as intended.

However, the natural fatigue still seems wierd and bugged for me. The only character in my party that ever gets fatigued naturally (usually after ~30 hours) is Aerie. Why? Because she is the ONLY character in my party that has less than 16 CON. All my other characters, they can go on forever. I have tried travelling around the map for weeks; they NEVER get tired naturally...

Well, it obviously seems like nobody knows anything about this, so I will stop updating this thread. As a final question, of sorts, does anybody know of a way to check status effects within the game? I have tried Shadowkeeper, but fatigue is never mentioned anywhere...

I don't know when natural fatigue hits characters with such high CON.
I think I usually end up using haste before that time.
Keep in mind that normal people would have a CON of about 10-11 (the average of 3D6), and even average people can go on for a long time before they actually start suffering from noticable "penalties", so I can imagine that someone with a CON of 16-18 (which is like the stamina of an absolute beast) can go on for days.

As for your other question, you mean what the flag for fatigue in shadowkeeper is?
I don't know, but what I do know is that it is treated as a negative luck effect, so maybe you should look for luck modifiers.

Hmm, I actually did manage to get them fatigued the other day; basically I was testing it out again, so I spent like a week travelling around the map, then left them standing there as I got something to eat. When I got back to my computer, they where all fatigued besides my main char (the only one with 18 CON).

Then it happened naturally. I like travelled to the de'Arnise Keep then back to Athkatla (about 35 hours) and when I got back they all got tired after awhile. My main char, the one with 18 CON was the last one to begin complaining.

So I have no conclusion to make other than that it is working as intended. I could swear it happened faster in BG1 though...but then again you travelled alot more there and usually for longer durations. Taking into consideration your example of average people, it makes more sense. I had not thought if it that way, but 'Tis definately true.

Aye, indeed! Luck 'Tis! Seems the matter has been resolved, so, thank you Isilion. :)

good to see it resolved :)

Yes fatigue is a major thing in BG1 because even the slightest travel between maps takes many, many hours. Travel of 1-3 days is even quite common. I'm glad that in BG2 the travel time is a lot reduced

Personally I preffered how it worked in BG1; I liked having to rest immediatly after reaching the destination, potentially getting ambushed while sleeping! Seems there where alot more random encounters in BG1 aswell, which is a shame, imo. In BG2 I haven't really run into anything besides bandits when travellening the map, and it's always the same ones, making it kinda boring. The resting part made the experience feel abit more realistic to me, but to each his own. 'Tis time to let the thread die, methinks, but thanks again. :)

This still does not explain why a party member wasn't tired after casting Restoration. This should always happen immediately and regardless of a character's constitution (which is why I never cast restoration via Aerie if I have her in my party... I've heard too much about her legs as it is :D )

i don't know, i never use lesser restoration
looking at the spell description it says it gives a day's worth of fatigue
so maybe she had more than a day to go before becoming fatigued she doesn't get penalized straigth away?
just speculating, as i said i've never used that spell

Maybe; I should probably tell you that I had another wierd occurrence aswell:

One time upon arriving in Athkatla, Jan and Aerie became fatigued. For some reason, which I no longer recall, I reloaded a save I made right before they started complaining... and then they didn't get fatigued. I kept going for several hours after that, and no complaints. Seems the whole system is abit buggy and random to me; or maybe 'Tis just my game. I don't know.

weird indeed
i can not imagine that fatigue with be a test against CON instead of an ordinary timer

could be a bug, i'm getting some odd bugs too sometimes. Aerie losing and regaining her bonus spell lots from her HLAs for example.
I wonder if it has to do with the game not actually being supported by the current windows operating systems

Hmm, could very well be, as I don't remember this fatigue problem when I played it before, and that was years ago, on windows XP if I recall.

Aye, I read about your spell bug; sadly I am not far enough into the game to test this out myself, yet. But I'll be sure to report it if I suffer the same problem later on.
