For some reason my fighter-rogue isn't allowed to learn the top three Rune spells (Anti-Magic Shield, Sanctuary, Vengeance). Each time he gains a level, the game claims he learns the spells, but the spells remain grayed out in his spellbook. So I'm trying to figure out if the game is buggy, or if maybe there's a hidden requirement for learning the spells, or if maybe you have to be an adept to learn the spells.
So... has anybody learned the top three Rune spells? Has anybody learned the top three spells for any school?

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Is the mana cost too high? Maybe more intelligence??
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
I don't think it's a problem with mana or intellect, but who knows.
Meanwhile, now the same thing is happening with my mage-adept. She just hit 30, and she's not being allowed to learn the Whirlwind spell.

Apparently, this is a bug in the game, and it seems to be related to picking up spells before you can use them. What would DL be without some sloppy bugs?

After some testing, it indeed looks like if you pick up a spell before you can use it, then you'll never be able to learn another spell from that school. So you'll need to be careful when picking up spells.

MMXII fixed the bugs that made the game unplayable (like gates not working), but it added new, irritating bugs to take their place.GawainBS wrote:Damn, that's bad... MMXII might be even less playable than the CE?
Anyway, now I'm not sure about the magic bug. I was playing my mage-adept some more, and after going back to a "safe" save, I had her pick up a Summon Fiend spell. This botched Nether Magic for her, which is what I was testing, but then at 35 she wasn't able to learn Freeze, even though I hadn't picked up any Arcane Magic spells. So maybe botching one school can botch all the schools, or maybe something else can trigger the problem as well.

After I posted here, I noticed there was a thread on the same topic in Nordic's forums. That's what gave me the idea that picking up spells "early" causes the problem. I'm not holding my breath that Nordic is going to do anything. I was surprised when we got any patch at all.GawainBS wrote:Have you posted this on the official fora?
I'm still curious if anyone has managed to get the level 10 spell in any school.
