Barred Door in the Government District?
Barred Door in the Government District?
Trying to finish up Athkatla for good, exploring everything I've potentially missed. Except for the locked chest in the Jysstev Estate (Warded mechanism or whatever) there's just one door I can't seem to get open; near the northeastern district exit there is a small building leading, seemingly, to the Delryn Estate. The door there is barred and I cannot get it open, and I haven't found any explanation for this anywhere.
Selinde Truesword- I am clearly deranged. Look who I travel with! Minsc, meet the Pirate Lord!
Minsc- Pirate Lord? Such a name does not conjure images of righteous behavior. Stand still a moment and let Boo have a look at you.
Desharik- Er, why is your friend pointing a hamster at me?

You need to have Anomen in the party and be following his quest line to unlock that door, it's his dad's house..

It's not THAT door. I've done Anomen's quests already, but there is a barred door on the other side of the house, the backside, if you will.. ugh, sorry for explaining badly.

There's a couple of places that seem to have no purpose, and this may be one of them. Others include a mansion in Bridge District, marked on the map with someone's name even, that I've never found purpose for, and similar low-key stuff. But, hey, it would be a bit weird if EVERY place in town happened to have a quest for us, now wouldn't it?

Aye, it's just that I haven't found any explanation for this particular door, anywhere. All of the others, the house you mention - Balthis Estate, was supposed to have an associated quest that was never finished - the locked chest in the Jysstev House etc. I usually only ask here as a last resort, but I seem to experience problems and have questions noone else does, for some reason.
Well, if they didn't want to pique (sp?) the player's interest they could've made it un-interactable, or just have a line like "There is nothing of interest behind this door" when you click on it like they do in multiple other places. ^^ Wouldn't ask for a quest everywhere, but maybe a little storage room with some minor treasure or something? Basically, if there is a door, and I can interact with it, THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING INSIDE, DAMNIT!

Sounds like someone has Gamer's OCD I agree with you, but the answer seems to be - nothing to see here, move along.

I know the purpose of this door now: When you do Anomens quest, where a messenger tells Anomen of his sister's death and you go visit his father, there are two doors within the Delryn estate. Since you cannot enter the Delryn estate at all - through any of the two doors - before the guard at the main door lets you in, after the quest is triggered, you can only exit this door. However, if you go the lawful way (it might be different if you choose the evil path and obey Anomen's father, i don't know), you're "no longer welcome in this home (the Delryn estate)" meaning that once you've exited you can't enter either of the two doors. Before the quest, you can't enter any of the doors because Anomen's father is "drunk", the guard says; I think the main door is then also "barred from the other side". After disobeying Anomen's father, you cannot enter any of the doors because you're "no longer welcome". So there you have it, you can finally let it go.Thomas Brorsson wrote:Trying to finish up Athkatla for good, exploring everything I've potentially missed. That's...that's genious! Thank you Dragon, that must be it!! I have never tried the evil path, but that makes sense, it does! Another mystery solved, I tip off my hat to you, sir!
